I'd go SpeedGlas.

Here is a wrench for your works. I use this AccuStrike helmet. I got a cheater lense installed and use the gold filter. It is great - particularly if you aren't on a fab line..... Little different concept for a helmet - most people either love them or hate them.... , but I really, REALLY like mine.

I find that when I weld using an auto-darkening helmet for any period of time I get headaches that I don't get using a flip type. I know they are very quick in responding to the UV light but I think the small amount that gets by bothers me.

If you are using a quality unit the lens is 100% UV filtering even if its off. I have heard other welders say the same thing though. I would guess its the flicker of the lens. You might not see or notice but it flickers.

I bought a "Hobart Hood" at Tractor Supply for well under the OP's budget, did not buy the lowest priced model because from reading the package the batteries were not replaceable. Think the model chosen was around $120.

FYI: Hobart & Miller are both part of ITW.
