Auto tool kit

I keep a tool roll under the backseat of my Jeep. It holds plenty of tools with zero rattle. Unrolling it provides instant access to all tools inside.

Here is what I carry in my Honda. It covers about half the car's fasteners.
Phillips screwdriver
10mm wrench

you can do better with a JIS screwdriver

I was being facetious because Hondas uses so many fasteners with a 10mm hex head or a JIS (similar to Phillips) head. Haven't had many on-the-road breakdowns with various Hondas over the past 15 years. 10mm wrench to change the battery. Of course we've had a few flats, but those tools come with the car. We did have a '96 snap the timing belt (crappy Chinese belt lasted 50k).

I put one together at the pawn shop that’s where I buy almost all my tools and I didn’t have a whole set of wrenches from there so I was at Walmart and picked up a set of Hyper Tough for it for occasional use it isn’t bad but I haven’t used them yet cause I haven’t needed too and I only need metric in my truck since it’s a 1989 import

I had the battery go **** up on my wife’s Escape. Jumped it (to get to the Napa store) with a small lithium battery but to pull out and replace the battery you have remove both wiper arms and some trim pieces underneath. Bad design and most people wouldn’t have the tools for three different size fasteners to get it all off. So for a very simple task you needed a decent tool kit.

As my primary vehicle is a 1989 Harley mine is a tool roll also... I have used it more helping others that have broken down but I have had to do some electricla and clutch adjusting.. bailing wire is great for tying on exhaust that has dropped mounting bolts

In the past certain jobs were sent direct to the flatbed team (particularly 4x4s) and you might get an RAC flatbed or a local contractor depending on circumstances

Thats changed a bit now, my van can lift all four wheels so if the weight is in limits I can tow them myself

We try to avoid using trucks (environmental compliance)

We try really hard not to use contractors due to operational cost and quality of service

the one i had to fix was a contractors . most of the RAC / AA patrols that have been out to me have been very good lending me tools as old land rovers seem to confuse them

Not super high quality, but good enough to possibly get you going again if something should happen.

Obviously, you're probably not going to find a kit that has everything that you need. In addition to the Stanley kit, I have the following also:

1/2" breaker bar with socket for the lugs. Once loose, I can use the socket with the 1/2" ratchet in the Stanley kit

jump pack
Viair tire pump
Streamlight stinger flashlight
