I just bought Autodesk9 and thought it would have some of the same functions of AutoCad 2000 that I had at my old job. I just want some simple functions like offset.
I can't draw a straight line to save my life, where is ortho when I need it???

What are your guys opinions and are there any help boards on this?

I am trying to do some garage & barn plans and not having much luck.

I have Cadsoft and it isn't much better.

Thanks Brian

Not release 9 this is "autosketch9" bought it last night at Office Depot for $130. I just needed a watered down version of CAD to do some house garage barn plans. I first used R3 in DOS back in '85 and that was easier than this.

For a watered down version of autocad, the last place I would by it from would be autodesk. The best autocad clone I have found is intellicad, its almost identical to the current version.

Autodesk has a discusion board for all their products at the usa website. I would suggest going through the tutorial at least once, if it has one.

Thanks mleichtle - will do that, I am suffering thru it today and learning that certain functions just have a different name.
Time to do a search for intellicad

I haven't been a fan of Autodesk for sometime. I scored a free version of Alibre Design, and I've used VersiCAD, BricsCAD, Iron CAD (my favorite for 3-D), as well as a few other "free" open-source CAD packages.

TurboCAD Deluxe (currently version 12) is another good, low-cost CAD package for $150. Amazon has the older version 11 for $77. The Professional version is really powerful and equal to AutoCAD. Check out the Competitive Upgrade option for Pro...
