I was given this compressor Automan AE7 5HP direct drive. All the Capacitors were disconnected so i tried looking online and nothing. Called Marathon motors and the pdf file they had was not right. Motor # MVA 184TBDR7026 BNL 5 HP MOTOR or just (184TBDR7026). My motor has 2 start (710 MFD each) and 2 run (15uf each) Capacitors. Does anyone know how they should be hooked up. If anyone has this compressor a photo of the caps would be great

Hi thank you for your response. I added more photos. The pdf showed 2 start and 1 run caps. I have 2 run and 2 start. I would love to have just 1 run and 1 start. Also the pdf stated that the starts were wired in series. I found that a little strange. I thought that they would be wired in parallel

I'd just hook it up as the diagram shows and put the two run caps in parallel. It looks like you almost have it wired up the way the diagram shows, however your T5 lead is connected to the wrong terminal on the start capacitor. It should be on the same terminal as the wire going to the run caps.

Thank you. I found and online converter that showed I could install 1 start cap. It would be 550 uf (2 710 in series = 550 uf). 2 runs at 15 if = 30 if in parallel. So 1 could run 1 at 30 if. Any thought on this. Or should i just do it with 4. My runs test good.

Two 710µF caps in series is 355µF, not 550. They may be put in series for high voltage operation.

If the motor is running fine, just leave it alone.

American Locomotive i uploaded a picture of how i will hook up the new start caps when they get here Monday. I changed the one wire like you said. How does this look. I do have a question. Do run caps have a Positive and negative. I ask because after i hooked the caps up i slid back the motor and tried to start and it did. But when running it sounded labored and 30 sec trip the breaker. I then moved the wire off that terminal up to the top and tried again and motor started and ran like it should fast and made no noise. If you look at the top right cap you can see a - symbol (the picture does not show it but the run caps are connected at the top with a jumper) Thank you Sir

I put the run wire T5 to the start terminal like you said (you were correct it would do nothing the way i had it) the other end to the run cap where the - symbol is. Motor started but tripped the breaker in the compressor in 20-30 sec. moved the wire to the top connector (as shown in photo) and the motor ran for 20 min until i shut it off. Re tried it again on the - minus terminal and tripped breaker motor was laboring. Hooked it back at the top and motor ran until i shut it down (quite and spinning fast) UPDATE Got the new start caps in and hooked up but the motor tries to start but but turns to slow slow to engage centrifugal switch so i shut it down fast. (it did this with the old start cap that were bad but they would go after a couple of seconds and motor would run). I did not want to wait with the new caps for fear of damaging then. When the compressed was working start and run were instantaneous. Any thoughts

UPDATE GOT IT GOING. I went back and checked all the connections and found the jumper wire from one start cap to the other had come loose in the terminal (from me taking the wires off so many times) and i fixed that hit the switch and the compressor went right off. American Locomotive i could not have done this without your help and knowledge. Thank you so very much Sir

From what I can tell, it appears that you accidentally effectively bypassed the run capacitors (by having T6 and T5 both connected to the "-" terminal), and then corrected it by moving the wire on the run capacitor to the other terminal.

Glad to see you got it working.

Hi
I have been given the same compressor. I live in Western Australia and cannot locate a manual for it.
I'd like to change the oil but for the life of me cannot find where, on the compressor, the oil resovoir is.
Would you be able to let me have that information.
Much appreciated, thanks,
Jim
