Anyone using one? What brand and where did you get it? How do you like it? I have my compressor plumbed with a 1/4 ball valve and all and it is much better than the default petcock style but since I use my air compressor often I can almost always drain a little water out. It would be nice to have an automatic one.

Lets here the suggestions!

Mine came included with the Eaton Compressor I bought back in 2008. I just googled "automatic air compressor drain valve" and see that Northern Tool sells them, Grainger too. Very handy to have, just plugs into a 110V outlet, you can adjust how often and how long the valve opens. Place a small bucket and run the drain tube into it. Works slick!

now how does that one work? how often does it purge?
I shut my compressor off at the end of the day. The tank decompresses over night and the spring loaded valve opens and drains the tank. When I turn the compressor on the valve "hisses" for about 5 seconds before the pressure closes the valve again.

how does it exactly work you know?

You tap it into the air purge line (guessing its name) up by the regulator. When the compressor turns off, air is purged briefly from that and the automatic drain opens while the purge line is pressurized.

As with everything HF, I had tossed the plastic line which came with the auto drain and used some 1/4" metal brake line I had kicking around. Also picked up a compression T fitting. I suppose that improvement might have doubled the ~$8 with coupon cost of the auto drain.

Here's my set up for an 80-gal 2-stage (I've posted details on the install here in another thread, in case you're interested).

Auto drain, set-up to purge with power on & every 30 mins.

Right -side view. Note in background - Discharge connected to outside via. flex hose & hose clamps; this allows for slight misalignment in discharge pipe and outside pipe; also, it's a 'pop-off' - should outside discharge become blocked/clogged.

I like that one where did you get it?
 I was afraid you'd ask -- I don't remember; but, I did get this info from the full size picture, posted below.

Not sure of model, feel free to use/send a copy of these pictures to the manufacture, if you need.

Service tag on side (I think this is where I bought the drain, but cannot pull up my account info to track purchase).
