I like these pliers a lot, but they don't close one-handed when gripping larger objects. While not always an issue, it's a problem when I need one hand to hold the object that's to be gripped.

I'm not sure if this is the same brand, but a tool rep brought a version of these in one day. I think they work great for lighter use. There's certainly a "wow" factor in seeing them for the first time, but I don't think they hold up as well, given that they have a lot more parts than a vise-grip. Just more stuff to break. We thought about carrying them for awhile, but it just never worked out.

I have the Grip-On version of these. They work well but don't provide that 'super holding' power that we expect from our old school Vise Grips.

I saw these the other day, Im sure they dont clamp as hard as regular vice grips correct?
I saw nothing to support this assumption. The clamping pressure can be adjusted so high that I am unable to close the pliers.

The intermediate (let's call it medium) clamping pressure setting provides about the same pressure as my Vise Grips do when I adjust them just-right. It's difficult to do a direct comparison.

It may be?

It's tough to say whether they'd hold up the same as Vise Grips. For me there was no "wow" factor, I actually thought the tool was a gimmick until I tried them out. Like an "as seen on TV" type of gimmicky no-need tool. But they have been quite useful.

They don't have many more parts, but they are slightly more complexly built compared to conventional pliers.

I haven't used them enough to form a very strongly opinion, but I do like the pliers for random general purpose usage. But as you said, I don't quite trust them as much as I do conventional styles, at least not yet.

Grip-on makes an auto-adjusting plier? Or are you referring to Grip-on locking pliers in general? I like my Grip-ons, mostly because I pinch myself far less than with Vise Grips, and the "Omnium" style is convenient.

I got a pair called "Vipergrips" from Amazon years ago. It was the WORST piece of junk I've ever bought.

I don't think I've been able to use them at all. I don't know how well other brands work, but the grip is so light, I can't even turn a fastener with them, they just slide right off.

If I recall somebody else complained about these Vipergrips before as well. They mentioned that the jaws moved oddly as they closed.

The Automatic jaws pivot like ordinary locking pliers. In addition, these pliers don't share the Vipergrips' issue with gripping fasteners too loosely either.

I'll definitely keep in mind to stay clean and clear away from Vipergrips, thanks for the mini review!

I have a pair of I think they are called lock jaws, got them at HD a few years ago, really don't use them at all, I guess I am so used to tradionall vise grips. I like the feel of adjusting the set screw while I am clamping something. Hopefully these work better than the previous attempts at auto locking pliers.

I have a few sets of those they are pretty nice but if I need to 'draw' up 2 panels for welding I normally reach for my Vice Grips, the Lock Jaws no matter how tight I crank the adjuster just do not seem to want to pull an object together. Other than that they are super handy!!

I believe that CH Hanson bought the Lockjaw brand, potentially played with the design a little, and came out with the Automatics. So if you're not fond of the Lockjaw, you might not be any fonder of these.

I've used the LockJaw brand c-type welding clamps that a co-worker had and I was very impressed. If I didn't have a bunch of the Vise-Grip 11R, 11SP and 9SP's, I'd probably replace most of them.

I never tried any "ultimate" clamping force tests with them, but when you crank the adjustment screw, they go pretty damn tight.
