I was at Discount Tire getting a flat fixed when I noticed that the techs would hook up a tire chuck to wheels and then walk away, come back, and disconnect the tire pressure gauge. How are they doing this? Does someone make a digital gauge that you can just set the max psi so that a tire doesn't over inflate?

Our hunter tire balancer has this function built into it.set the pressure and connect the chuck and it fills

Simple pressure switch. You can do the same thing by setting your air compressor regulator to the inflation pressure you want. I'm not really sure how much of a time saver it is because the higher the line pressure (usually 90psi) the faster the tire will fill. You just have to be careful. Basically these are dummy proofing it. Just like limited torque RH impact wrenches.

Yeah our balancer has the auto pressure set feature. So does our nitrogen unit. It ***** out the air and then fills it up with nitrogen. All 4 tires at once.

It would be nice to have a handheld unit which there prob is one out there but i haven't seen one yet.

Actually I do recall seeing some kit that allowed you to quickly air down all four wheels at the same time to bring them down to a PSI more suitable for off-roading. It was one air line with four tire chucks on it, which quickly allowed the pressure in all four tires to stabilize and be the same. I'd just like to find a hand held digital that can be set to a max PSI, so that it cuts off at my exact preset.

Snake oil! The fastest way to ever air down I found was simply removing the valve cores. But yeah, it's not exactly automatic.

The Craftsman Nextec inflator is supposed to be automatic, shutting off at a preset pressure while inflating. There must be other small inflators which are similar.

These are pretty slick. Used to use them on the Car I used to Pit for. You can set them to release to whatever pressure you want. This way you just fill up the Tires and then it bleeds off to whatever PSI you set them to. This way when you heat the Tires up and the Pressure rises the Valve lets some Air out so you run at a constant pressure even when they get hot. When the car comes in though and the Tires start to cool down they get pretty flat due to releasing the excess pressure from the rise in temperature.

They work great for the Sand too. Install them in the parking lot then head out and by the time you need low pressure it is already there.
