Our shop has had a snap on vantage 2400 for years. It finally crapped out on us so we are in the market for a replacement. I have been assigned the task of researching and choosing something, since I am the only one who uses it.

Here's where it stands. We are a small shop and don't do tons of diagnostics, but most proper diagnostics requires access to a scope IMO
The vantage served us pretty we'll, but the tiny screen was a pain, especially when trying to use 2 channels.

We already have a high and low amp clamp.

We need an update badly on the scan tool as well, a solus.

So I have looked at a few options already.

1) a vantage pro and an update to the solus, about 3800$
2) a modis ultra with the trade in of the solus, about 5000
3) OTC genisys touch with a tech scope or whatever they call it, about 3700
4) a pico 2channel standard kit and an update to the solus, about 2700.
5) a pico basic kit and a solus,update for about 2000

Any input on these, or any other, choices would be appreciated. Thanks.

If you have been using the Vantage 2400 for years, you will certainly like the Vantage Pro.

Have you considered grabbing a used MT 2400 off of Ebay?
If you like it you can probably find one for $200 - $400. This will give you a less expensive option for the meantime.

The Modis Ultra is a slick machine. I have the older 4 channel Modis.(very satisfied with it)

Good luck in your search.

Yes, you would love the vantage pro. Pico is very nice and has awesome features, but in my opinion for automotive applications, it can be a little cumbersome using a laptop as opposed to the handheld scan tools. I have snap ons verdict and absolutely love its wireless capabilities and the freedom it gives you. Only drawback is that it is only 2 channels.

I really like my Vantage Pro but I would not pay full price for one. Many come up for sale on eBay for way less the old Vantages also sale for a few hundred. I had one of those for years and really miss it. If you want a true scope get the Vantage Pro as the original is really only a GMM.

I like using the pico, even in automotive. gotta know what you're looking for and how to set it up but infinitely flexible if you know what you're doing. never tried the SO options tho so hard to say. +1 for paying the extra for a 4ch version tho.

Thanks for the input so far. I am strongly leaning toward pico. Now, as for 2 vs 4 channel I'm not sure. We are budget conscious so that is a consideration, as well as the purchase of a laptop.

As I stated we already have a low and high amp clamp. So for about 1600 we could get either the 2 channel standard kit with the pico clamps, or the 4 channel starter kit without amp clamps and a case, but most of the other stuff.

Can I trust a different brand I clamp, or should I go for the pico? This is a major consideration as the amp clamp functions will be used far more than a third or fourth channel. However I know the importance of those extra channels in diagnosing a timing problem, etc.

I'd love to go for the full meal deal, but I am dealing with a boss... Nuff said.

Input?

Pico now sell a basic 2 channel automotive starter kit, without current clamps etc. check the website for details, if you can't get it via a US distributor email them direct.

For £575
