I was disassembling a transmission today and had to fish out a few detents out of small holes in the trans and the smallest magnet pickup tool I have was too big (.37" in diameter) so I ended up using the shop vac to **** the detent out.

I see some stuff on Amazon that's .25" in diameter, but I"m thinking there has to be something out there better than the offshore stuff from Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Telescoping-...utomotive/dp/B0CBLYR5Y9/?tag=atomicindus08-20

Matco has one, but I can't find specs anywhere on the diameter of the tip. https://www.matcotools.com/catalog/product/fmm/flexible-micro-magnetic-pick-up-tool

Any recommendations?

Choose between 5mm (0.2”), 8mm (0.3”), 15mm or 19mm.

I have a really nice Hazet pull-out/telescopic magnet with light and a needle for washing fluid nozzle adjustment, but that head is 10.75mm. And they changed it apparently, no light, but the head size is down to 6mm. ( https://www.hazet.de/en/products/sp...car-glass-wiper-arm/product/ean-4000896022366 )

Kind regards,
Olli

I think I read that this Stahlwille and the Matco are made by Mueller Kueps.
Stahlwille Flexible Magnetic Lifter 500mm (20") 270g (9oz) 12600
It will lift the claimed weight while in complete contact with a flat item, but that's perhaps an unusual situation. The head diameter is 5mm. The wire is 2.5mm, quite normal and proportional, but thicker may have been better for a little more rigidity.

Magnetize an ice pick, or expensive tool truck pick, if they aren’t SS. Or live large, and make an electromagnet ice pick.

I tried a pick with magnets placed on the shank, but it was too weak to pull up the detent.
