Automotive Paint Spray Gun recommendations needed

Have a 1972 Ford F-350 Tow Truck restoration project thrust upon me (my kid left for college and left it in my driveway after securing a check for $16K to cover his living expenses) Not sure what I am going to do with it other then just clean it up and get every thing in working condition

He put a descent Industrial White paint job on the body but being a kid never completed the paint job, underside of the hood, door jams, inside of doors, ect, ect ....

I've painted automotive lacquer, enamels, and epoxy based paints decades ago and am looking to finish up a few items on the truck. I've already had the pleasure of experiencing crappy low grade spray guns and watching a droplet fly out on the 3rd and final coat of an otherwise perfect paint job, so I am not interested in anything offered by Happy Fart.

Also don't want any thing without enough "Waevos" to atomize 2 part paint as that will probably be going down on the inside of the hood and small removable pieces

Your experience and recommendations would greatly be appreciated

I have a devilbiss finish line for base and a sata rp 4000 for clear. I love how the sata sprays. but also much more $$$. I have been looking for a new base gun, the finish line does ok but I don't like how slow it is.

I bought a sharpe finex 3000 off advance auto website for under $100 with one of their coupons awhile back. It did what I needed it to do. Better gun than the painter lol. You can also look on Craigslist for a high end gun a bodyman is getting rid of.

Iwata LPH-400 will do that job just fine. 1.3 or 1.4 fluid tip.

I got my Eastwood catalog out and I'm looking at a 2 Gun Kit the Devilbiss Starting line kit.

Anyone with a recommendation for the kit

Starting Line is ****. No better than Harbor Freight guns. For cheap guns look at the Finish Line or FX2000/FX3000. Tekna for mid range or Iwata at the high end.

Paint is too expensive to screw with cheap garbage guns.

Tyndall is right. Paint is too expensive to screw with cheap garbage guns. That said STAR makes some very nice inexpensive guns that are sold in the U. S. by Astro Pneumatic. The green and blue forged guns they make are quite good for the cash. The green (HVLP) for base and the Blue (Reduced Pressure like the SATA RP) for clear are impossible to beat for the bread. 1.3 or 1.5 for the base gun and 1.3 for the clear gun are the correct needle/nozzle combinations.

I sprayed my Miata with a Devilbiss FLG4 Finishline very easy to setup, came with 3 tips, was able to use it for primer and base (I only shot a single stage).

I have used the 11.99 harbor freight gun to paint my truck, just watch it doesnt spray primer well but the correct tip would fix that, overall good gun

I use an iwata lph400 for sealer/base/clear.

The HF guns are good for primer since it all gets sanded anyways, and you don't feel bad about throwing them out.

If you're looking at Eastwood, the Concours is a fine gun at a good price, a definite step up from the Evolution (which isn't bad itself.)

(And as Nor'Easter said, for primer the purple HF gun would do the job.)

Bash the purple $10 specials all you want, but for your usage, once you get the oil they pack in it cleaned, they work.

The finex guns became my fave, I have two still. Bang for the buck they have a good pattern and feel. I've owned satas and devilbiss guns, no issues with them other than cost.

I have the devilbiss starting line touch up gun and it worked perfect for my application. I also have the iwata air gunza az3 which I use for base and clear and it is reasonable priced at around $130.

I like the EVOT13 as well, a high efficiency style as well but ultra low pressure (15-19psi).

I have a LPH400, which are probably $500 now.

On the lower end, I can't say enough good things about my Air Gunsa made by Anest Iwata. It's a great gun for $125-$150. I like it so much better than my FinishLine that I gave away.

Get the DeKups setup for whatever you get….. it's wonderful.
