I've got a Duralast 3/8 extension that has been fine for me. My knock against them is thay are really expensive for Taiwan made tools.
Coach

These are worse than junk they are expensive junk, take a drive to Autozone sometime and look at them in person. JUNK

I found a very old great neck 3/8 ratchet about 6 years ago. Broke it and returned to Autozone. Got a new one and it is better than the old one. I really like it but again it was free.

I bought a couple of metric wrenches from them to get me out of a tough spot. They've held up well to use/abuse and they ;ook as nice as my craftsman's.

So after using them I say the wrenches are OK. Not great, not as good as $nap on or MAC but good enough for occasional use.

Regardless of where they are made, autozone and the like is not really the best place to buy tools, other than maybe one oddball socket or something. Theres a store less than block from where I work that carries blackhawk but ******** that stuff is priced about the same as stuff off the truck.

Blackhawk is like SK, you can get them cheap if you know where to buy. Otherwise, they're just not worth what people charge.

The new Blackhawk stuff is not nearly as good a quality a the old stuff

No, but it's still in line with new SK stuff. Better than Craftsman not quite tool truck level (more of a issue of selection than quality).

Really? I thought that the Blackhawk By Proto line was becoming essentially an import line ala Husky Pro. Am I wrong? It would be nice to know if they are still made here....

The BlackHawk line is US made, with the exception of things like gear wrenches, rotator ratchets, etc just like everybody else. Sockets, Ratchets, Wrenches, Pliers, Screwdrivers, etc are all made here and are of good quality.

So Duralast is not the same as Great Neck? Is Autozone no longer selling Great Neck?

I have some of the Great Neck stuff and it's not bad, not great, but it gets the job done. Sometimes I catch my friend wailing on one of the wrenches trying to break a nut loose. They've held up.

Great neck was still n Autozone the last time I was there. Their ratchets look like Taiwanese Snap On knock-offs. I've laways wondered how well they work... but I never wondered enough to try one.

I have a set of Great Neck box end wrenches. I use them occasionally but the problem I have with them, or at least the ones I have, is they are slightly oversize for each of the sizes. They go onto the fastner but they are loose and don't grip the bolts like my Craftsman set. I won't use them on stubborn bolts for fear of rounding the bolt off.

Where can you get S-K cheap?
Even better. Get the SK part number for what you want off of their webiste or catalog. (Say it's #123456).

Go to www.froogle.com (Google's retailer price-comparison tool) and type "SK 123456" in the search field. It'll list many of the discount online tool sellers (tooltopia, toolwarehouse, SJ discount tools.) and each of their respective prices.

Don't forget to figure shipping into the mix. Some ship nearly free, while a cheaper place might charge a lot to ship it. ;)

The Great Neck name never was exactly known or even appeared to be a high quality tool line.
This is true for the most part. However, I have seen and purchased some Great Neck tools that are surprisingly good quality. For example these torx bits are very nice. The machining and finish is done well and the bit's are S2 tool steel, the socket is CR-V. T10 through T60 and they cost $25 dollars.

I've been using the smaller sizes on a regular basis, can't say a bad thing about them.

Just in case someone reads this...this is not true anymore. Blackhawk is all import now.

I don't think so. It seems some of the line is US produced again. I got 2 Blackhawk wrenches directly from Proto a few months ago as warranty replacements, and they were USA.

This isn't true at all. Allot of their tools are import and others are assembled in the USA of global components but I would wager over half of their tools are still made in the US. I bought some brand new Blackhawk combination wrenches a few months ago that are still made in the US.

Elroy would concur and offers these recently acquired USA Blackhawks to substantiate :

Elroy knows of Southern well and he can assure you they have nothing like this:

Elroy loves new tools that come in boxes

It's even better when the box has the correct COO

Full Polish Blackhawks made in the USA.

And you thought your Bonney's and Cornwell's had nice thick beams

Made in the USA by our good friends at Stanley. The pouch ***** but these box ends are nothing but nice

Are some Blackhawks import? Sure

Not all of them

I work at autozone and have to use the tools to install batterys every once and a while and let me tell you they ****! But I would never bring my tools near the place.

I stand corrected. I exchanged emails with Proto asking the COO for Blackhawk tools and they responded with "overseas." Clearly it doesn't cover all tools under the brand.

O.K., I see a pattern here. Many of us use and like the Duralast line. With that said, there is an alarming amount of evidence to suggest that the Duralast tools can NOT be used by AZ employees to replace batteries in AZ parking lots. Attempting such a procedure causes immediate destruction of the tools. :lol_hitti

Otherwise, carry on!
