Auxiliary Fuel Tank For Generator

Hi fellas

I have a generator that needs a new fuel tank. The inside rotted. Carb and fuel system were cleaned and the generator runs mint.

I cant find the OEM tank, and am looking to get an auxilary tank setup. Plumb from the aux tank right into the carb.

Anyone have a link or experience on a jug they used? Specifically interested in the plumbing from generator into aux tank. Ie - fuelpickup / seal

unless the generator has a fuel pump you will need a gravity feed tank.
what is your generator make & model, pics of the tank> never know who has what around here!

Understood on gravity feed - no problem there. Gasoline.

Can anyone confirm standard fuel line size for these - 1/4”?

I did find a US distributor contact i can phone for an OEM tank...but i may prefer to go auxilary tank regardless.

For my boat I have a preference for the OMC metal tanks but honestly have had times where the fuel line connection leaks especially with temperature swings.
I've used the plastic ones, some have a "reserve" feature where you stand them on end to get the last gallon. The OMC and Mercury (probably other engine brands as well) ones seem to be thicker plastic but other than that I haven't noticed a big difference.

Check the fuel line size you need for your carb so you get the right hose and fittings. You will need a hose with a primer bulb but as long as the tank is higher it should siphon feed OK after priming.

IMO mounting aluminum tank and putting a petcock on the bottom might be a better option.

It's an older Onan gas generator, but it does have an electric fuel pump since it came out of a camper. I love that fact that it holds 14gal, is easy to transport/roll around with the wheels and has a shut off and disconnect already on it. I don't have the fueling nozzle on it, just put it on the truck, go to the gas station, fill it up and connect it back onto the generator. I greatly enjoy not having to fill the generator every few hours...

Everything i sourced online had improper mounting hole spacing.

I spoke with the company just before and ordered correct tank. Hope it works out. TBD

Adding a vacuum powered fuel pump is cheap and easy. Find one for a Briggs engine. The pulse line can come off the intake or rover cover. While you are changing th fuel line add a filter and a shut off valve.
