So i went to Sears today to blow the last 20 bucks of a gift card. They had the three piece red handle pry bar set on sale for 19.95. But I saw the Irwin groovelock pliers 2 piece set on the rack for 17.99, which I wanted more. Apparently that was a mistake in stocking, as they rang up as 24.99. The manager said "our mistake" when I showed her where I got them and honored the lower price. Now that's customer service!!!

The 24.99 price for both is the day in day out list price.
Black Friday was $12.49 for both.
Glad to see they honored the tag.

Thats what the stores should always do. I bought a nice pair of dress pants for $1 at Kohls last week, it was marked on a big red card on the shelf... so when they rang up 50 bucks at the register, I told them about the card. They didnt want to honor the price, so I went back to the shelf, grabbed the card and showed them. I walked out of there with a new pair of pants

I have had that happen at the local True Value hardware. I feel like I am getting away with something..lol
When I bought my C3 tire inflator its was marked $19.95 (about I forget exactly) in the normal area on the shelf, but no stock. All 4 units in stock were on an end cap with some other C3 stuff and marked $41. No problem, manager did an override.

I'm a regular at the Sears in the mall I work at (well, for three more days, anyway). My thing is clearance items, but I found a 5-gallon air tank on sale a few months ago for $26. The cashier rang it up at $32 or so, so I told her of the sale tag. She asked me to get it, saw it was from the previous week, and did an override to give me the cheaper price.
I've gotten plenty of good service at this Sears, but then again most of the employees and managers know me as the Army guy who spends more time in Sears than doing his job.

I;ve had it happen many many times around town with the markdown of Craftsman Pro screwdrivers at various stores back in the fall.
List was anything from $10.95 to 16.95ea. retail, but were often marked down to $2.97 up to 6.97 ea. and usually $5 and under.
Each had both scan tags on the tag and it depended upon which one the cashier scanned--the OE price or the clearence price.
The mgrs of those stores now know me by name after those hour long debacles on thier end. LOL.
All legit and marked down, just not done correctly on the Sears end.

When it rang up different they sent a sales associate to check the price and he took the tag off the shelf and stuffed it into his pocket. Then returned and asked me to show him where I saw the price because he did not see it. It was funny because he was within view of me and the cashier for the whole series of events, tried to be very sneaky with his back to us. She laughed it off and gave me the lower price, apologizing for his deceptive behavior. Stood behind their price but the one individual was a disappointment, not Sears fault.

A few months ago I bought a sawzall from Sears and someone had put an old beat up model back in the box and returned it. Needless to say I went back to Sears and showed them what happened. The manager offered to give me the more expensive model in exchange ($40 difference). Problem is they didn't have either one in stock (there's the Sears we know and love!) so I could not take advantage of the deal.

In CA, and I think in other states as well, it's not only a good idea, It is the law! Customer gets the display price if it is lower.
Worked at Radio Shack for a while after retiring, and missed pulling the "sale price sticker" and ended up selling the item at last weeks sale price some days later.
But I wouldn't move to CA just for that!
Years ago at Best Buy, in NC, I looked at one of those new fangeled VCRs (I said it was years ago). Floor guy answered a few questions and I picked up one and headed to the checkup where it promptly rang up some what higher than the display price. Turns out that the price tags where switched for some reason, (store mistake??, or another customer??) but the store honored the lower price! I liked Best Buy after that but refuse enter their store now for other reasons, their prices being only one of them!

They must just set returns back on the shelves! Bought a garbage disposal from them once, with someones else garbage in it!

I had the same experience kinda, with a set of the Pro Series line wrenches a few years back. I looked at the price on line. Figured it was a good deal so I went to buy them. When he rang them up they were $15 dollars more than the web site price. I told him, he looked it up on line and honoured the on line price. Not only did he give me the price, he gave me another 20% off because I caught the error! Some places are good, some bad.

I have never (at least that I can recall) had a bad experience with price matching of mis-marked merchandise at Sears. I regularly frequent 3 different stores, the one in Milford, CT at the mall, the Hardware one in Shelton (near where I work) and the one in Wallingford (near where I live) and they have all, at one time or another done the appropriate thing.
Two weeks ago they had their 3/8" Thumbwheel ratchet marked at $4.95 and it is regularly $20+. They checked the rack and saw it was the lower price and overwrote the pricing. That was a nice pickup IMO for that price as I had been waiting for it to go on sale, but even a sale price wouldnt be that low.

I have had experience with Sears as well. Back in May I ordered some saw saw blades for my Dad for Fathers day. I got the email that they were ready to be picked up at the store, I went to get them and they could not find them, so manager, by the name Dawn tried to find them as well, but could not she apologized and then gave me a $5 credit voucher and then ordered them for me again and mailed them to my home, no shipping cost. I got them in a few days It was their error, but they could have very well told me to just come back or to bad so sad, but I felt like they made every effort to correct the issue the best they could. IMO the best customer service is not how you are treated on an average issue, but how mistakes are handled and corrected. I was pleased with the outcome

I've had it happen a few times too. About 3 years ago while walking through HD, I saw they had a rigid 12v li-ion drill with 2 batteries and charger for $78. I though that was pretty good so I grabbed it up. When I went to check out, I think it rang up for $138?? Anyways, they honored the price that was on display and made me happy
I've always had good luck if the price was mismatched. If something was marked one price and they failed to honor it, I wouldn't buy it.
I had the exact same problem, except the price scanner (located throughout the store) says if there is a scanning error, I will also receive another $5 off. I told the sales associate about it and he thought I was joking and even told his buddies how crazy I was for wanting additional discount just because of price error.
One email to Sears.com and I quickly got a reply from the store manager. She (manager) apologized and made the sales associate refund me $5 back over the phone.
Ended up paying $15 for the tool, which is fantastic when you pair it up with the full size lithium battery. I keep it in my trunk for emergencies. Would never think about doing that with NiCads!fm2176

I bought a couple of Craftsman reciprocating saws a couple of years ago for $32. One was marked as such in the clearance section, and I found a few more in the saw aisle that were marked $120 or so. I asked them to check the price and sure enough they were all on clearance. Gave one to my father-in-law and one to my best friend (who got arrested on his way home, so a cop probably has the saw now) after I found a much better deal.
Last year I found a Milwaukee Sawzall for $28 new. Sears has gone downhill in more ways than one and now sells mainly their Made in China Craftsman power tools, and the Milwaukee tools were "victims" of that decision (also got a 1/2" Magnum drill for $64--wanted to wait for a better price but grabbed it while I could).

I love sears and have no problem with local sears locations around me. Case in point. I returned a 19/21 mm RP flare nut wrench last week because of a chrome issue. It was old as dirt and I doubted that they made that size any longer. Sears guy said no problem let me call craftsmans number, if they still make it and have it sent out to you. Comes back to me, tells me they no longer make that size and i can choose another flare wrench or get $16 credit. Ok fair enough. Didnt see any flare nut wrench i wanted so i grab a $16, 1" size 6 point RP wrench. Sears guy says ok then looks at the wrench i am returning and says, since this wrench has two different sizes you can get another wrench too. So i grab the 15/16 size 6point. I got $30 worth if wrenches for a flare nut wrench i returned. Sears guy was a pleasure to deal with and took about 5min without any problem.
