Anyone know how deep I need to bury conduit for just 110V to my back yard and was wondering how deep I need to have it for my schematics for the prints for permit.
All help appreciated.

18" for non-metalic conduit, 24" for direct burial cables such as UF or USE. A single residential GFCI protected (protected prior to entering the ground) 120V 20A circuit can be 12" deep.

If in doubt, just dig your trench deeper.Remember these are minimum depths in the code, you can always go further, especially in a heavy traffic area.

THIS SITE HAS SAVED MY *** THREE TIMES.

http://www.municode.com/Resources/online Library.asp

I have had problems when ever I want to build. The easy thing for the neighbors to do is call the code inspecter. They don't like me. Long story short, I was accused of being a lawyer and not disclosing it in court. It seemed that I was able to site the ordnances better than the code inspecter, and prostituting attorney.

Thanks everyone I am already batteling with the inspectors. Its just a shade struture and some electrical and they want a permit. The power I can understand but the 120 sf patio needing a permit is too much... Crazy will let everyone know how it works out...

Some areas have code that if a building isn't conected to the ground, such as posts or anchors going into the ground, it is considered a movable structure and not needing a permit. Along this same path you may be able to seperate the electrical issue from the builing issue if the elec. was put on a pole seperat from the structure as long as the elec. wasn't directly hooked to the building till after it passed inspection.
