AZ garage door window blinds (temporary)

My garage in Tucson faces West. Have had really good luck with foil rolls on the doors. I tinted the windows and that helped but Summer is coming and I am looking for options to keep the sun out of my garage.

It's possible I end up using the same roll. Just have yet to come up with a good plan. Needs to remove easily.

Get a roll of this and cut it to fit, then put it up with velcro. You can pull it down when the weather cools off. Where are you in Tucson? I'm east near 22nd and Houghton.

If it is a steel door just go to Wal Mart and get some inexpensive curtains and some magnets to hold them in place over the windows.

Find one of the old huge satellite dishes, and mount it to the house above the door. Refer the HOA to the FCC. Might need two or more dishes.

Bill that is a winner idea. KISS for sure. If it isn't a steel door maybe industrial velcro to do the same thing.

I think shade screens are going to be a good option for you.

I am open to that idea. In fact that is the plan but thought I'd see what others thought 1st. Lots of creative people on here!

If tinting, use the mirror stuff. When it comes to insulation you can do a few things: reflect it, absorb it and trap it. One more though, put something outside rather in or on a wall or window. Heavy curtains will trap some heat between the curtain and the window. Used outside like a roll up blind, the sun won't reach the window at all.

I used 2 layers of black fiberglass screen, lets light and heat in the winter, keeps the heat out in summer.

When I lived in Phoenix, I had single light French doors on the entrance to the shop. To keep the the bright sunlight out of the shop (and people's ability to see in) I bought some 3/16" frosted plexiglass and made an overlay for the door glass.

IIRC I cut all these panels on a table saw.

The French door lite had a plastic molding retaining the glass. To mount the frosted plexiglass I just screwed some button-head sheet metal screw at a 45 degree into the plastic retainer. The plexiglass could be removed quickly to vacuum the bugs out once a year.
