B&D 1/2 Junior Drill ?

My uncle knows I'm a tool junkie, so at our family picnic last week he gave me one of Grandpa's prized possesions; an old D handle Black & Decker 1/2" junior drill. He said his kids would just sell it, and he wanted to see it being appreciated. It works great, but needs a new cord. He said he knows it is at least 55 years old, but could be a little older.

I know nothing about it, and found little on internet, including here. I would like to know more about it. The handle for it is a length of galvanized pipe. I thought it was not original, but now I'm thinking it is. It is stamped Korea around the diameter near the unthreaded end???

Any info is appreciated...

Anyone? I've found a few references that generally refer to these as being a solid piece of equipment, but thats about it

Thanks

I've used a similar B&D drill of that era; very reliable, but VERY heavy.
Also, surprisingly, many only had a 1/4" chuck, so between their large size and small chuck, they were limited for auto repair work, or use in small confines.

None the less, it's a nice momento.

The maintenance man at the Ford dealer I worked at had 2 of those and both had pipe for the side handle. I borrowed one when I had to do a frame rail recall on a F600 and needed to drill 7/8" holes for the suspension mounting bolts. There a torque monster the bit caught and about pulled me over the rail before i could release the trigger.I wish I would have been able to go to his estate auction when he passed away i would have like to bought one of them.
