b&d grinder parts

i have an older b&d 7" super duty grinder from the 60s that needs brushes
model 787-6 i believe
id plate badly scratched
looks like a model 4071 from a 1971 catalog
they are 2 brushes together on 1 spring/cap assy
can it be converted to a 1 piece brush?
if so what

I don't see any reason why it can't be 1 brush.
you'll probably have to get creative with a set of brushes and a file ( to make something fit) if you can't locate them

Looks similar to my B&D wildcat grinder. I bet those parts would fit your grinder.

My local Ace hardware has a divided drawer of brushes, find something the next size up and grind down. Since there are two wires, maybe increased current carrying capacity, or worried one brush may fail in the engineers mind.
