Hi all, Stopped at one of my local flea markets today and picked up several of these DBE wrenches. Just wondering if any of you might know who made them? no other info other than what is stamped on them. I did a search and came up emty. Thanks.

You have to upload the picture to an image hosting site, like photobucket, and then take the link they give you and post that link here.

Could you upload the pictures right side up if I could read the script maybe I can figure out who made them; trying to see them upside down is killing my old eyes.

Thank you.

Thank you.
My old eyes made out CHROME ALLOY MADE IN USA on one and 3/4 BF GOODRICH 7/8 on the other. Hope this helps.

Sigh...yes I could read the words but it helps me in my search to see the script, right side up now to look at other examples for that same style.

Possibly Stevens Walden Inc stamped BF Goodrich on their tools which manufactured tools from 1920's thru 1990's

After seeing your post, I got on alloy artifacts but found no connection with Stevens Walden and B F Goodrich. Though some of their later wrench markings do look similar to the ones I have.

I'm not so sure that it solves any mysteries, but it certainly establishes the fact that at least at one point Walden Worcester was manufacturing private-label product for B.F. Goodrich.
The small wire ratchet in the photos above is one of the earliest designs of "ratchet" (as we know them today.)
Whether or not Walden was also stamping out wrenches for Goodrich is another question. The photos don't show the ends of the wrenches or any forging marks. A little more detail might provide better clues as to who actually made them.

The earliest reference I have for that ratchet design is shown in the 1914 Cray Bros. catalog, where it is shown included in the "No. 4 Combination Wrench Set for Ford Cars". (I'm fairly certain they were made before that but I don't have any documentation at hand at the moment.)
It is also shown in a couple 1922 and 1923 catalogs, but by 1925 the catalogs show a completely different type of ratchet included in the Walden sets.

Just my lousy opinion, but those chromed wrenches above (at least what I can see of them) do not look like 1920's vintage, so while we know Walden at some point supplied Goodrich, it's entirely possible those wrenches could have been made by any number of other manufacturers.

Thank's again four. cycle, I'll see if I can't get more pic's for you. Yesterday I cleaned them up and polished them a bit, still don't see any kind of makers mark on them.

There may or may not be a forging mark (or maker's mark) on them. It may be a matter of comparing them to wrenches made by other manufacturers and making a best guess based on visual comparison. I am certainly no expert in that regard; although I can easily identify the OE manufacturer of some items, wrenches are not my strong suit.

Interesting thread.....
....yes it's an old one, but there's good info here that shouldn't be allowed to drift away into cyberspace

Since the earlier pics are gone.....here's my BF Goodrich DBE wrench
I'll keep it with my Firestone sockets

Here's four I found in the bottom of a rusty old toolbox at the flea market. Everything in there was covered in rust and grime. These cleaned up nicely. Nice plating and great feel on these wrenches. Since we don't know the actual manufacturer they're getting their own B.F. Goodrich toolbox...1000025217.jpg
