I have been lurking for quite some time. A big thank you goes out to every one for the ideas I've gained. I discovered G.J. after the the big hole in my back yard got filled up with concrete. I never really thought to take pictures of the build as it was happening. I had a major battle with the city to get the permitts and ther another battle with the power company which took nearly a year. The building is done now so I just have to build some better work benches and my bar. Ihave some cabinets to hang and some more decorations. specs 28' wide X 33.5' deep X 12' ceiling with a 10' door. I added a 7' X 26' dirty/ grinding/ equipment room to the back. A little history I bought the house In 1991 and have been wanting to build this since. I'm 42 years old, married and, and have a 8 year old son who loves football and wants me to teach him how to weld. I'm a Utahn. enogh typing here are some pics

Great space! Half the reason I am finishing my garage is because my Jeep deserves a nice place to sleep.

Nice garage, nice boat, nice Jeep and cool dog:). Those wouldn't be Trail Ready beadlocks would they? Just curious, I know the guy that makes 'em.

Yep the are Trail Readys. They are manufactured in your state. Thanks for your comments

It sure makes it nice to work on The Jeep not only the space but heat and air conditioning as well. I'll say it "wish my shop was bigger" But that's what the city wouldn't alow.

Nice space! If you don't mind, what is your light spacing on the ceiling. Looks like a good amount of light and not so many fixtures.

There is 9ea 8' the new style flourescent I forget the numbers but the ones that have 4 4' tubes they are HO's. They are set end to end aprox. 1.5' space between 3 banks of 3 fixtures. the spacing is approx. 7' from the wall on each side and approx 7' between each bank. I also mounted two of the same 8 footers under the shelf, and two more in the backroom. I did a little trick that I did in my little garge years ago, I mounted 2 more of those same lights just above the foundation about mid ship of the Jeep and mid ship on the boat. It works great no need for flash lights or trouble lights and cords.

Nice!!! how bout an outside shot.
specs on JEEP
Thank you. It has been dark when I get home so I haven't taken any outside shots I get a couple soon. The Jeep is "belive it or not" my high school/ college ride I bought that thing one month after my 17th birthday, I'm emotionaly attached to it:bounce: It is a 1977 CJ-7 Levi edition Renegade. er um it use to be. It has a mildly built AMC 304 V8 the one it came with. I modified a GM throttle body injection to it. The transmission is a T-18 4 speed out of a '68 ford truck. A few month ago I finally got my Atlas 5.0 transfercase. Rear axel is a high pinion Dana 60 4.88 gears and a detroit. Front axel is a high pinion Currie 9" 4.88 gears and another detroit. rear suspention is a modified triangulated four link with 14" King coilovers. front is a modified 3 link with a pan hardbar with 14" King coilovers also. I'm going to change the front suspention though, it works well but unloads to much. curent Tires a 39" B.F.Goodrich sticky comp. compound tires mounted on 17X 9.5 Trailready beadlocks. After years of wheeling the wee out of it and cracking and welding and fish plating the frame, I just cut it off. I tubed the front tied it all together with the roll cage and the seat cradle. It is still just a trail Jeep it still has a floor and a a dashbord.

Thanks - looks like plenty of light. I'm looking at 10 8' 4 bulb fixtures in a 24x28 space at 6' per row. Just trying to keep costs in line.

Falcon, This is what Is was talking about. With the lights almost on the floor working under the vehicle is alot nicer.

I like the floor lighting idea B-RAD. I will have to keep that in mind! Do you by any chance have a build thread on the CJ? JeepForum or Pirate maybe? I think you undershot in calling it "just a trail rig." I'd give my eye teeth for that Atlas. Here is my current Heep. Just did a tub off on her last winter. It's SOA on 2" BDS springs, 35s, OTT high steer, etc. Very mild mannered compared to your beast, but still fun! Workin' on a Jeep is the best therapy around!

Hey Fire fighter no complete build thread On my old CJ. I did a preary good thread on www.rockymountainextreme.com when I cut the frame in half but, that was in 2003. That site had a major overhaul a few years a go and I cant seem to find the thread. And of coarse Here at my business I've had a few computer changes since then. It would be kind of hard to do a full build process of my old Jeep as it has been and will continue to be a build in progress. Seems as I am always changing or modifing something. I rebuilt the 304 V8 in 1990. Did the body & paint in 1991 (has since been molested by rocks, trees, rollovers, sawsall, grinders, and plasma cutters) Adapted the T-18 in 1995. Front links and coilovers in 2003. Rear links and coilovers 2005. It has been an on going build. Or as my wife likes to call it "A continuious pain in the ***" As you are aware, owning a Jeep is a life style choice. It is not simply owning and operating a vehicle :bounce::bounce: I dig your YJ. I'm going to build me another good looking Street legal Jeep soon. I have a few projects to take care of first. I have a thread on pirate that shows our trip to the Rubicon Go to the Rubicon trail topic and search Rubivirgin. That my thread over there. Here is a little taste

INCREDIBLE articulation! I'm very impressed with your set up. I'll get there some day. Can't wait to stretch her out with some tons under her and a 5.3 and make her a trailer queen. I'll stop messing up your shop thread with Jeep talk. I could literally do it for hours. I know you could as well. If you are interested in the tub off I did last winter, here is a link to most of it. I'll check out the Rubi thread on Pirate!

I really like the storage and the back room for tools. Very cool!

Thanks I also put my compressor in there so I don't have to listen to it. I have it piped through the walls and have 12 quick connect air fittings around the walls. I hope I never have any leaks as i hid the lines in the walls under the sheetrock. I coved the one wall with 10 gauge sheet metal so grinding sparks and the chopsaw sparks don't get embeded into the sheetrock or catch any thig on fire.

I'd like to thank for the link on your tub off. That only took me a bout an hour to read through :D Your not messing up my thread that's what thease place's are for. I rember the first time I took the body off my Jeep. Man I thought I would never get it back together. But after taking the sawall to the front frame horns I was literly sick to my stomach.I think it is funny how Quick things come apart and how long it takes to put them back together. It would be a MAJOR under taking to get my tub off now.

This past weekend I made shelves out of the side parts that were cut out. I put all my battery chargers in the left cabinet. I guess it was a good thing that it covered my electrical outlet. Right now, I just have wax and towels in the right side.

The center Is were all the A/V equipment is. This is my old Yamaha surround system that used to be in the house I ran all the wires in the walls. the rack consist of top to bottom: Audio Source amp for the woofer, the Yamaha tuner, Yamaha dual caset tape deck (I know, who uses caset tape any more). Funketronic (Costco Special I can't remeber the brand) VHS/DVD player. On the bottom is the Yamaha 6 disc CD changer. I really don't know why I put all this stuff together, I put a little adapter on the receiver so I can run my I-pod.

I see two pastimes I share in that garage, CJ's and Lake Powell (along with the tools/fabrication that come with the former), though I haven't been to Lake Powell for several years.

Nice setup with the fab room. You've made good use of the space you were allowed.

I had to go back to see, I didn't remember mentioning Powell. I thought "how did he know I love going to Lake Powell", and then I saw the powell map on the wall you have a sharp Eye.
