I'm plan on installing a 75K btu Mr. Heater Big Maxx in my attached a garage (4 car).

My since the garage is attached I do not want to just vent straight above the heater through the roof, as it will be seen from the front of the house. My plan is to vent straight up through the ceiling and then go on a 45 degree angle for 10'~15" to the other side of the roof.

Provided that the run is supported is there any issue with this? As far as I have read there should not be as long as I install the exterior vent to code and use the proper fire stop or wall thimble, etc.

Attached is what I am looking to do.

Thanks,

Jeff

I can't give a definitive yes or no to your question, in my part of the country it wouldn't be allowed as the flue isn't allowed to travel thru the attic like you intend to do only so you can vent the heater out of a more desirable location. We'd be forced to put the heater on the other wall in the garage; so the best thing to do is call your local AHJ and run it by them, but at that point their probably going to want you to pull a permit, which isn't a bad idea.

check with the manufacture... when we tested our gas stoves, they were designed for a total run length.. and that took into account a horizontal run.. I even designed one that goes down and runs under the floor .. but that involves a power vent..

what you are suggesting should be quite reasonable, especially since you are planning a 45 to the vertical and not just flat.. there should be a chart with the heater or might even be one online that will outline the rise and run requirements..

Ryan, vent through the will would look out of place, since it is an attached garage. I wish I could.

Chimo, yeah I'm going to call the mfg. Also, I'm going to look at moving it. However, the only real place to put it is in one of the bays. It may interfear with my garage door, or lift I am planning for.

Thanks!
