when shipping things like this use an old ice chest.....and use block Styrofoam NOT peanuts

my friend used to ship 4 stroke dirt bike motors that way.....never had any damage

I ship things internationally for 3 motorcycle forums;)

I use styro ice chests cut up. medical drugs were shipped in them. I make the item into a cube and make a tight cardboard box around the cube to hold the item. Sometimes I use the foam chest Then shim up any slop between item and cooler with styro If the item is heavy I make a cardboard box around the foam container. My feed back on ebay is very good. I have had many people tell me they will use my techniques in there operation.

Another good trick is to wrap said item in a garbage bag. Center it in shipping box, then shoot GreatStuff foam around it. Locks it in good.

Swamp cat: heckuva idea and does the garbage bag keep all the expanding foam off the vise or tool you are shipping? or do you use a couple bags?

Pinch: did you sell your anvil yet and for how much if you don't mind sharing or is that on the other thread?

just curious since I usually only buy a few things on Ebay and rarely use them for selling stuff. when you get a bid by a person with a zero or a low rating are you concerned if that person is a real person that might mess with the eventual sale?

i'm sure we could start a thread or maybe there is already one on auction etiquette. I see a lot of things sold on there and i'm happy to buy some once in a while so it must be working.

good luck on that sale, but if it was me i'd keep that clean looking anvil on that awesome stand and homemade metal straps holding it down. I guess we all have to sell some of our nice things so we can buy some more.

I have sold many things to zeros. Some people may think that I am the zero. But that's never been the case. I'm an honest person. I get what I get! Now some zeros never pay. But then some with many buys on ebay do the same.

When I buy things 99% of the time it's to make money and live. I did own what I bought for a short time and cherish it more when it sell for much more than paid for. This gives me a lasting memory of a skilled buy. All my mess-ups stare me in the face everyday.

Can be a cow?? I'm still learning and I wonder if you actually talk like this all the time just on GJ or actually use the good "old English" everyday and every minute you speak. I for one like the challenge of learning and good on you for putting those wonderful phrases in your posts.

I guess a zero becomes a 1 and eventually a 2000 like some of your Ebay scores are so I guess we all have to start somewhere. hopefully more good than not.

good luck on that and even if the sale doesn't come to pass I surely wouldn't be disappointed having it sit in my garage for a while longer until the right buyer finds your auction.

are you happy using that site for your sales and paying their fees since it looks like you are a regular there?

I turned 30 into 3,935.67 and 1 into 463.** That made me happy. Now many things I buy I just don't know their value. You need collectors to bid on and ebay is that place for many to buy. So it can work out for some items. I have turned 1-5 dollars into 100-250 many many times. This is a great profit margin no matter the fees. There is something else to buy and cherish for a while until you can make a buck and carry on to the next. It keeps me going and I like doing it...

I now have a third and high bidder on that anvil. It will be a good sale. The winner wants and will buy it. Where do you find another one? Like I said they look to be few and far between. And this one is a nice one. Rarity equals a good sale and payout.

If I spoke, (wrote), using my local dialect, you'd find it a damned sight more confusing. :D If something's a bit of a cow, it's being awkward/recalcitrant etc. For example, if one did a task which was a royal pain in the ****, for whatever reason, you could refer to that as being: "A cow of a job".

I didn't see the question so maybe you meant to put on the other thread. did you end up getting $940 total and how much of that was shipping?

by the way thanks for the pictures of the packing and did you take those pics on the required union breaks?

did you ship base for the anvil in another cardboard box you made?

No the 940 was a mistake. The base is still here and will stay here. This was a fast package job. Way under an hour. The lid of the huge foam cooler was cut into 4 pieces with no waist. I used 100% of the lid to box this. This was a breeze compared to the vise.
