Back fill

I have been debating on using lime for back fil. Some one told me it was a little cheaper than gravel. I am looking at around 40"s of fall to the rear of my building.
It is 32x36. Any thoughts?????

Are you looking for more at a drainage concern or other? Over time, lime will compact and lose its porosity; in which gravel generally won't...

If you are talking about inside you foundation, I would use readymix washout. I got all I needed for just transport cost and it set up like concrete. If it's outside the foundation why are you using grave, (more than just setting the drainage tile)? Dirt should be cheaper.

Not suitable backfill. Get a good sand clay mix and place in six inch lifts.

Especially if it has fines it's not good for drainage, but great as compacted fill as a base.
We do gravel a lot here in Iowa for drainage unbalanced fill.

I was going to use it as a fill in side. I have run rebar between all post horizonally. Drilled two holes (evenly spaced) a drove the rebar thru posts, dug two holes 2' down between posts. Formed posts on both sides and rear, mixed concrete and poured concrete between posts. Its about 4"-5" below grade. Ended up with about + - 40" fall front to rear.
Was going to get a triaxel load at a time.


Thanks for all the replys to my post. It will take me awhile to get back on this sight. I do HVAC install/repair and at night installing new system at house across from me. They lost their house in last years tornado. Happy New To All
