Back probes

I'm looking at a couple different options from Fluke and Power Probe, but having never used any before I'm unsure what will be the most useful. I see the silicone type (not sure how they can be conductive) that I'm sure are quite flexible, and the rigid types.

I currently have a Fluke 115 and a set of Power Probe leads, and generally just use the wire piercing probes, but I don't think that's ideal. I'm mostly testing under-dash and kick panel connectors.

Any recommendations on a good set? Is it a good idea to get a couple pairs of different rigidity or length? I see Lisle and a couple other companies have them a little cheaper than the big names, are they just as effective? Thanks in advance for your experience.

I personally don't like punching (even if real small) holes in wires. I'd rather connect at the connector.

But when I have to....I have the points on my probes real sharp.

Joann fabrics... Look for T pins. Work well cheap. Buy the thin ones

Am I misunderstanding the use of back probes? I was intending to avoid punching tiny holes by using them. I often would like to test while the connector is connected.

Interesting. They're very cheap, gotta love that. Not that I'd mind in the least spending what I need for the most effective, but those look like they'd work as well as some I've seen. Problem is I haven't handled any that I've shopped, so it's hard to tell what I'm looking at.

I have a pair from snap on but they are pretty flimsy. The kit from aes wave looks like a good investment.

Yes, I've been looking at that, it was also suggested on a similar thread that's floating out there specifically about the SnapOn ones. Looks like possibly neither the Fluke nor PP ones are very well liked either.
