I'm in Watertown and as long as it's contained and not 'smokey' no problem. Don't know the full regs off hand but limited to a 3 or 4' circle. Doing a large brush pile you call and get a permit, it's free but they just want to know who's burning in case someone calls/complains.

Thanks for the info, I'm still going to have to look into permits. The neighbors around here mostly keep to themselves, so as long as its not to crazy i'm sure it will be fine.

Last I checked here, an amusement fire in a pit was OK so long as the fuel does not stick above the pit.

So my jackass landlord fires up his bobcat and digs a hole 15' around and deep.
the extracted dirt is mounded around the hole like a volcano, and planted in tropical plants. There is room in the pit for a couple good size oaks, and a car or whatever.
well, our place was right next door to the fire station, and we had flames easily 30' out the top so the fire guys showed up right away.
"WTF are you doing?"
"chilling by our fire."
"You can't do that."
"Why not? the rules seem pretty clear."
"Hmm. Well I'll be... Thats pretty cool, call us if you have any trouble."

Well, we almost did get in trouble. The hag next door sued us for disturbing her peace with 'large and mysterious explosions' after someone used too much gas lighting the pit. I think we blew out 18 of our windows that day, but she didn't have enough evidence to stick it:lol:

I just bought a $79 one from Lowes, stacked up some landscaping blocks around it.
I just don't burn when it's too dry ...or Windy,
