What does anyone know about a backup wrench? Any pictures?

I have seen mention of this tool twice. Once when installing front shocks on a Dakota when reading the Haynes and again reading a tech article.

Clever and new to me. They would seem to have a very limited application. How often do you have a solid surface in the right place to jack against?

The tools in the photos are news to me.

A "backup wrench" as far as I'm concerned is any wrench that holds one thing stable while the other wrench or socket tightens another fastener.

For example, holding a brake hose steady (lower) while tightening the flare-nut on the tubing (upper).

^ What he said. I doubt you'd need the wrenches mentioned earlier to replace the front shocks on a Dakota.

Oh thanks you last two. They werent calling it a backup wrench, they were saying it was being used to prevent backup. I just misunderstood I guess!

I was wondering why/how you'd need one of those tools for a set of shocks.:lol_hitti

Makes far more sense.
