Hello all,

Thanks to everyone’s great feedback!

We have been making 4-post lifts for over 25 years and everyone who owns a Backyard Buddy has good things to say about it. While we have hundreds of lifts in smaller commercial shops, our primary target market has always been, and remains to be, collector car enthusiasts who need more storage space and room to work on their cars.

Bob Pa we agree that certification is just another business and that is one of the main reasons why we chose not to pay the $10,000 - $15,000 that it takes to get a lift certified.

Our lifts are built following commercial standards and we have tested our lifts with over 21,000 pounds steels plates and determined that Backyard Buddy lifts have a 3 to 1 safety capacity on everything. Commercial certification requires only 1 and a ½ safety rating capacity. But, if customers are willing to pay the cost of a certified lift, we are please to get it certified.

All of our hydraulic cylinders are built in ISO 9000 certified factories and made in Bowling Green, Ohio. All Backyard Buddy lift components are the best there are in the market. Our Hydraulic motors are UL certified and our lifts have been tested by independent groups, just like we tested our competitors. If anyone has any questions regarding the results call us at 1-800 837-9353.

A final note on certification, Backyard Buddy lifts are certified to be free standing by our insurance company, and we stand by our track record that Backyard Buddy lifts have never had any accidents. We manufacture the safest lift in the market and continue to support our hardworking Americans.

We might not have time to be as active in the forum as we'd like, but we will continue to check for your feedback and to answer any questions or concerns!

Well responded to. Very professional and concise. What BBB has done is make a business decision: they think they can sell as many or more lifts without certification than they could with. Although several consumers here say otherwise, it is the company's perogative to make that decision. In the end, the onus is on the customer to choose certification or not - as it should be. Thanks for your reply.

BB, are these lifts literally designed and safe for use in the backyard? Due to zoning/set-back issues, I am unable to build the size garage I want in the back, but I do have room to pour a concrete slab as a stable work area with room for the lift. This would mean the lift would effectively be permanently assigned to outdoor duty, ie, exposure to weather. Are there any components that would be degraded over time by exposure?

Hey There!
Backyard Buddy lifts can be used outside but the electric motor has to be covered. Even though our lifts have a power coated finish, the lift is still made of steel and will rust in time. Lastly, the lift needs to be on a concrete pad at least 4" thick.

Feel free to call us at 1-800 837-9353 if you have additional questions!
