backyard buddy lift

hi, was wondring if anyone has a backyard buddy lift and how well they liked it? my dad is thinking of buying one and any info on them would help.

The Backyard Buddy lift is more expensive, and not as good a lift, in my opinion as the Bend Pak HD9. I don't ever remember someone on the site purchasing a Backyard Buddy lift that posted about it on this site. That isn't saying that there is no one here, but that they haven't mentioned it. I would say that 99% of the people on this site that have made a Bend Pak lift purchase have been very satisfied. You can learn more about the Bend Pak lift by clicking here... thanks for the quick reply, junkman . he is looking at the info about bendpak. he has a lot of different vehicles, ranging from his 48 anglia up to his 2000 super duty duallie. I tried to talk him into a 2 post but he wants a 4 post drive on.

I don't believe that the Backyard Buddy is going to be able to handle the length, width, or weight of the 2000 Super Duty Dually. He is going to need the Bend Pak HD9XW, which will accommodate everything in his collection, from the smallest to the largest. The HD9XW has 16' long runways. You need to know the wheel base of this truck and if it has standard or over sized tires to know for certain. My 145" wheelbase Cadillac wouldn't fit on the standard HD9, so I bought a HD9XW to accommodate that car.

I have a BB lift and I think it is perfect for my use.
I bought it from a fella that was having BB make him a custom lift for his corvette.
Maybe they can do the same for you.

I have had my Backyard Buddy lift since 1994. No problems of any kind.

My BB has never failed me! Throw a couple of sheets of plywood on it and it becomes a walk around adjustable height buffet table for parties.

Do keep in mind that lifts are constantly being updated and engineered to be safer than previous models. I have a BendPak HD9 and it's a certified lift with secondary safety locks. Best of luck!

I was thinking of buying a Backyard Buddy until I asked for opinions on this site. I'm now convinced the Bendpak is a superior design and it costs less too!

I have a BYB lift, a cousin of mine has the BP and they are both great lifts. BYB is American made, if that matters to you. And contrary to this post, myself and many others have posted regarding their satisfaction with the BYB product. Recommend you see each in person before making a decision. Many people on this site and others are extremely passionate about their choice between these two, to the point of rabid obsession. Good luck sifting through all the BS on both sides.

People will of course always be passionate about what they bought and use daily. The point here is to offer up some insight to a potential new lift buyer. Having said that, with lifts I do see a trend in MFG's getting more units certified and incorporating safety measures likes secondary locks or air locks (for one button use/ease). In regards to the backyardbuddy, I had looked at their unit at a car show several years ago and must say that I don't think they've ever changed their initial design. Other than perhaps offering an XL version now, they have never been upgraded. I'm surprised they haven't incorporated secondary locks or sought certification, especially for the price of their lifts (which I think is nearing 5K now).

I have seen the backyard buddy up close and personal. I have even seen cars lifted on the backyard buddy. I gave it long and considerable consideration prior to buying my lift. At the time, they couldn't manufacture a lift that would handle the weight of my cars. Just because something is American made, doesn't make it a superior item, and just because something is made in China, doesn't make it an inferior product either. Both countries have a long history of making both good and bad products. I based my opinion on my personal assessment of both lifts after personally inspecting them. I never said that it was inferior, but did say that it was my opinion that the Bend Pak was a better lift. That is my opinion, not scientific fact. As such, I am entitled to my opinion, just as you are to yours. In my instance, I couldn't consider a backyard buddy because it wasn't strong enough for my needs.

What standards Apply to Automotive Lifts?

There is only one current standard in North America that governs the design and construction of automotive lifts. It is ANSI/ALI ALCTV (current edition), “American National Standard for Automotive Lifts - Safety Requirements for Construction, Testing and Validation”. This Standard addresses the U.S. electrical requirements associated with an automotive lift by incorporating compliance and third-party listing to ANSI UL 201 (current edition), “Safety Standard for Garage Equipment”. For automotive lifts used in the Canadian markets, third-party listing as evidence of compliance with CAN/CSA Std. C22.2 No. 68 is required. The ALI “Gold Certification Label” provides proof of full compliance to the applicable U.S. Standard(s) and demonstrates full compliance to the

applicable Canadian National Standard when indicated on the certification
