We recently found a house that everything we were looking for, and priced right so we moved to the country. Well not big time "country" but far enough out to find a good 1.5 acre lot, so it is time to build the shop.

Spending countless hours poking around this site has given me a bunch of ideas, and although I wanted to build a much bigger shop. I had to deal with restrictions, and set backs and all that jazz...

Although it may be small at least it will help me stay on a single project at a time, I have a problem with taking on one or twelve different things at once....and with this shop I will not be able to do that so I am looking at that as a positive.

Also, with the smaller shop I can afford to do everything I wanted to do and not break the bank....here is where it all starts..

Shop is going to be 25x34....and built to match the house with brick exterior, before they poured the slab I locked in 900 feet of pex from "Blue Ridge Supply" for in floor heat because even though it never gets "really" cold (in the thirties) where I live.....I hate being on my back on a cold concrete floor.

Well I got home from work today, and the framers had gotten a pile of work done.......and it was almost 100 degrees today...

18 Foot wide door with 9.5 feet tall....

Cathedral or "tray" cieling trusses for maximum ceiling height....I LOVE tall ceilings in a shop they make it seem so much larger...

First truck into the shop to check the size......seems a like the perfect size...

Porch out front to give the shop the look of a "pool house" from the house.....will be a great spot for the outdoor kitchen....

Came home from work the today and framing crew had been going hard at it all day...

All the trusses are up, and the roof sheeting is going on.....

Inside now looks a little bigger for sure

Roofers will be here this week, and brickers are scheduled for next week....then it will be time to focus on the inside.

Framers finished up last night....I was honestly going to frame this building myself, but after watching these guys work through the heat wave we have been having lately (over 105 heat index) I am gald that I did not.

Building wrap on and tar paper on the roof....

Thats a beautiful shop! I love the hip roof and am happy to see how it was done with trusses. My own hip roof was stick built.

Are you putting brick on all four walls or will you put siding on part?

Great shop. This is about the size I am thinking of building. With the hipped roof (which would match my house) and the side porch, this has most of the elements I am looking for. Have you thought about how you will lay out the interior?

Shop will be brick on all four sides, the price difference was very little and I think it will look alot better.

I have been planning this garage for a couple years now, so yes the inside is 100 percent planned....I can't wait to start on that part to be honest.

Thanks for all the kind words guys, the 18 foot wide door was a suggestion of my contractor I was a little unsure about it, but now that is in in I love it!!!!!

I plan to use a rolling door to keep my ceiling height clear and plan to put in a Kundel Crane as well to hep when I am working alone.

Once the door is on and brick is up, wiring will start.

Shingles are up, and the brick has been delivered......it may just be me, but I think it looks a little like a "Tim Hortons" (Canadians will understand). I think it is the font on the house wrap.

Brick guys came today and I ordered my door...18 foot wide, 9 foot high insulated rolling door from DBCI.

Started laying out the electrical on paper so I could come up with the shopping list, and ordered the steel to build the "gantry" for the crane!

You can see that they are doing a great job matching the house to the shop.....

I laughed when I read that. I had a similar thought upon seeing the siding on my new garage framed by the neighbor's palm tree. It looked like a tropical themed restaurant.

Unless there is a never ending queue of cars at your porch, a la Tim Horton's in Fort McMurray, no one will ever mistake it. Your building looks great. I love the brickwork.

Before the slab was poured they poured footing for the slab, 6" wider than the slab to act as a brick edge....

Proabably not, if I do it will be one of those Backyard Buddy lifts that can roll around. If the building was bigger I would consider a lift but for what I do the floor is the best solution...

I would rather take the cash I would spend on a lift and put it into a crane setup from Kundel...

Alot has gotten done in the past few days...

Brickers finished up and it looks GREAT!!!!

Then the aluminum crew shoed up and knocked it out in less than a day....

The door still has to be changed over to a "garden style" door just to improve the looks of the "porch" look.

Door should be here either by this weekend or first thing Monday.....

Door showed up yesterday, and honestly I was going to take a day and install it myself. But once I priced the rental of the forklift to make the install easier, it was within 50 bucks of having it done by a pro.....so I had them do it for me.

I choose the rolling door to give me more head room in the shop...I love how high it sits in the opening.

Sorry for the delay in updates guys, I have been dealing with the grading issue that I created by sinking the shop into the ground. The wall is 70 feet long and steps from 5' high to 3'10" I worked a deal with the contractor that poured my slab that I would buy all the retaining stone from him at his cost and I would hire him to lay the "first" row for the wall that way all the drainage would be good, and it would be level and straight.

Then all I had to do was stack the block.

I added a slight curve to the wall near the house just to clean up the look a little bit

While he was laying the first course, I had him pour the pad for under the "porch" and in front of the garage door.

What is the internal height? It looks high enough that you could get a lift in there...

Nice looking shop. Your wall looks great. I tell you, it is worth the money to pay to have that first row put down, that is for sure. I put a wall in at my house, and that was the hardest thing I have done was to try and get that first course down. I ended up with a wall about 95' long and about 4' high, with about a total of 696 block in it.

What is the internal height? It looks high enough that you could get a lift in there...

I have an overall height of 15'6" at the peak....so yeah I could put a lift in, but if I do it will be one of those "rolling" lifts so not to loose the floor space.

The outside came out great. I'm from Ma. and I thought the same thing when I saw the house wrap. lol Nice looking wall, you did a great job on it. That can be back breaking work but well worth it.
