Bad thermostat location

Putting this out there in hopes someone else doesn’t make the same mistake I did.

I put my thermostat directly in line with where the sun shines in through my garage door windows in the afternoon. I’m amazed how much heat the sunlight offers and fools the thermostat. It will show upwards of 75 degrees when the garage is really 35-40.

See pic, don’t do this, and plan better than I did. Now I need to fish a different part of my wall and tromp through my attic insulation; not fun.

In nearly every home I have lived, I have moved the t-stat to another wall. Professional installers even make the mistake of installing them in direct line of sight to the sun. They don't seem to understand the power of sunlight.

You should move it to a wall that is not in direct sunlight and not on an direct exterior wall. Pick a dark interior wall. I like to put them on an interior staircase wall where air temperature and wall temperature are moderate yet it is easy to access.
