I bought a Waste King from Best Buy (who wudda thunk?), I've been real happy with it.

Zoro tools sells disposals also, Too bad you missed the sale.

Badger is a good entry level garbage disposal... typically when garbage disposals **** out leaking is the problem (they rust out)

If money is tight I would buy another Badger, if you can free up the cash I would buy an insinkerator (made by same company) and something in full stainless.... It's better and quieter, you can get decent deals on them on ebay.

Yes they are buy and discard, however, call the 1+800 number on the data plate. They have a good warranty program if you still fall within it.

I bought one too when we bought our dish washer there in 2005. It's still going . Gutless wonder. I have always wanted a high HP disposall! I remember my dad
Bought an ISE brand and it was like 1/64th an HP or some nonsense. I said , dad what about the 1.5 HP model??? He just shook his head ...

I had a badger 5 fail on me just a month or so ago. It leaked, developed a small hole in the back a couple of inches up from the bottom. Thinking back I probably could have tried some JB Weld to plug it. It looked to be original from the house built 15 years ago (we just bought the house in August) or at least a fairly old replacement so I went ahead and replaced it. Probably wouldn't have gone too long before another rust hole emerged. I believe the same model runs about $100 at Lowes/HD. I upgraded to the stainless steel version of the same model for an additional $25 - $50 or so. The stainless one has a 5 year warranty vs a 2 or 3 for the base one. It's a pretty simple replacement process - don't forget to knock out the plug for the dishwasher drain if you have one. My brother missed that and then wondered why his dishwasher wasn't draining!

Disposable appliance, no parts available and not worth repairing. Buy a new one. Make sure the drain comes off at the same height and that is about the only difference between them. The more expensive has more insulation and the quieter they are.

Having replaced a few garbage disposals in my day.... I gotta be honest.... Even if there were replacement parts and you could open them up and fix them, no way in hell I would....garbage disposals are disgusting.... For the $80 or $100 or whatever a new one costs there is no way i'd try to fix.

If really on a tight budget just replace with standard basket, tail piece and ell arm. $10-20. Tail piece can be had with outlet if D/W connected.

They are a convenience-not a necessity (wife would argue that point). Save up a get better disposer later? If leaking thru internally hopefully unplugged.

I'm on my third Badger in 14 years. Lowes is closest and has them in stock. It's easy to put the same one in and not replace anything (except the disposal). Save your cord since it doesn't come w/ the disposal.

If your garbage disposal is leaking out the bottom near the reset button, you most likely have a leak in the metal plate that is located directly under the blades. This plate is designed to protect the electrically powered parts of the motor (the rotor, the shaft, etc.) from moisture, but it is rather thin and is only made of galvanized steel. After a year or two, especially if you use highly acidic cleaners which you rinse down your sink, the zinc layer will corrode and expose the steel, which will then also start to corrode, until something hard eventually pokes some kind of hole through the plate somewhere (could be somewhere very small), signaling the end of the machine's service life. The plate is not meant to be repaired, only replaced along with the rest of the unit. That water getting through to your rotor is an electrical hazard, and should be dealt with immediately (by removing the damaged unit). The manufacturer has figured out that the blades need to me made of stainless steel, but has chosen to skimp on making other interior parts of this more-expensive metal. See more...

I got tired of replacing mine and did what anev942 suggested.

If you want to keep one, I would suggest what others said and spring for the stainless ones.

We had one that did that. Bowl was plastic, no rust, but it cracked. Seems to be a common problem with Badgers.

I would also suggest contacting customer service if it's fairly new. I did that for ours (a little "nicer model" and explained my story. It was out of warranty, but they gave me a pretty good deal on a new unit.

I put in a decent amount of garbage disposals. I buy the best ISE my customer can afford or I can fit in their cabinet. Nothing less than their cheapest "ss grind components" version. No badgers. I stay away from other brands due to running into powerful machines that were too loud. As the ISEs go up in price they get quieter.

My dad had apartments & I learned early on that cheap G/Ds that had to be replaced too often weren't a bargain.

All that said, the first thing to do is confirm that it isn't leaking from above. It is not uncommon to have a minor leak make it's way down & look like a bad disposal.

And, if you do replace it, be sure to knock out the diswasher connection plug if you're tying a D/W into it. It seems obvious, but recently I found that someone had left one in & goofed up their D/W. From the phone call it was a pretty likely guess "We just replaced the the G/D & now the D/W doesn't work".

They are just builder grade, put in a new one.
I avoid their use as much as possible, add a little grease and hair (previous owners, like alot of people have no regard to stuff like this), nothing like 11pm snaking after thanksgiving dinner, and then again at christmas.
