i figured since we discussed eye protection i would bring up ear protection. i'm looking at these "baffle style" ear plugs. everyone seems to have them for around $10. http://www.bullseyemarksman.com/cease-fire-baffle-plugs-with-case-p-24505.html
i looked at a pair tonight at bass pro and i accualy meant to buy them but i got side tracked and forgot. they claim you can carry a normal conversation while wearing them. they have some sort of baffle that blocks implulse sounds, ie, gunshots. does that mean they won't work for non impulse sounds like a grinder or a circular saw? do they allow pressure to equalise in the ear canal?
i can't stand the rubber ear plugs because they create pressure when i incert them. i like the foam earplugs because they don't cause pressure but i can only ear them a few times. i knew a guy in highschool that worked as a trim carpenter on new houses. he would wear the same pair of foam earplugs all summer:wtf:. they were black when he was done.:puke:

I used to keep a set of the reusable hear people talk type plugs on my keychain in a pouch, and they seemed to work fine at the time.

I now have fairly loud ringing in both ears, but I blame my summer of construction using a skilsaw where I was not smart enough to wear them.

Now I have a few pairs of the $3 HF muffs laying around handy.

Holy cow do those things ****!
No noise suppression(6dB if memory serves) , and uncomfortable as ****!
I would recommend a set of AO Safety WorkTunes if you dont like ear plugs.

They don't work at loud volumes. They only help to decrease gunshots and the like. I tried a pair one time when they were on clearance. They were uncomfortable, I couldn't hear a conversation that well with them, and they didn't block loud noise. Total failure for me.

At work we use the disposable foam ones, I also use them at home when required. They got a few of us (i was in the lucky group) fitted for custom molded ear plugs as a trial, if we like them they are going to fit the rest of the people later. I also bought a pair for on the mower that are noise cancelling and can be hooked to a radio or MP3 player. Makes 4 hours on the mower bearable but no more sober.

Yeah I have a set of AO safety worktunes I used religiously when I worked in aircraft. 10 hours of nothing but dull noise will drive ya crazy but the earmuffs were comfortable plus they had an mp3 input so if the radio got boring I'd start listening to my mp3 player. Don't need em now but I still use em for mowing and shooting
