I have one and I don't think the shank is removable, but if I'm honest I have never tried to remove it. It's a decent screwdriver and has found a spot in my main tool bucket so I use it quite a bit. Not quite as nice as a Snap on but you could buy 4 or 5 of them for the price.
I have a stubby as well but rarely use it as most of the time I need a stubby its too big.

I have the stubby one and its great in size, i think most other stubbys are to small to get a good grip on.
The ratchet function is also superb...

I have the stubby kit.

Ratchets nicely, and the handle feels good in your palm.

I have to agree, the removable shank is a bit goofy, as it ends up being longer than necessary. Defeats the stubby idea somewhat.

I bought my girlfriend the first one you have listed to use around the house/ office furniture at work except it is Bluepoint and I bought it off the truck for around $25-29.99
Handle is comfortable
The metal collar is nice and ratcheting mechanism is smooth with a little bit of slop with the swing arc.
The magnet in the tip is a lot weaker than the Snapon racheting screw drivers so I never use hers if I have to hold screws with the magnet.
The bits that come with it are soft and have since been replaced with Snapon bits.
The shank is not removable unless the modification works the same as with the regular Snapon ratcheting screw drivers.
But I have not cared to try that modification with her screw driver since I already have removable shank versions from Snapon.

I thought it was decent enough a couple of years ago that I gave a bunch out as Christmas presents to my brothers and ect.. people that don't take very good care of their tools so there was no sence buying them something nicer.
But they are all happy with them

At that price I'd get the snap on version. Check eBay or the Jh Williams. I have both of those and the snap on has the knurled shaft but the nh Williams has more bits. I like the Jh Williams the best.

For the stubby I only have the snap on and it's fine.

Neither shaft is removable.

I have the stubby version made by Sk that is made in Taiwan,in the same plant as the Bahco.
The bits are soft,the ratchet mechanism is fine,like others mentioned,not as nice as the Williams/Snap on. I paid around 29.00 for it in the little green blow mold box with bits.
Would I buy it if I had it to do over gain ? No.

I have 808050,I bought the same one off of amazon. Yes it's Taiwan made, but it's also a great driver. I wouldn't hesitate to buy it again. It's a great driver.

I have to admit that when I got my first Wera kraftforms I didn't care to much for the handle.

Somehow that turned into I don't like any other handles anymore over the last few months.

Worth every penny and Wera bits are great.

The one on my wish list is the PB Swiss

I have the standard length Bahco you linked. Shank is not removable (unless I've just not pulled hard enough lol).

Would kill for that PB Swiss model!

I have the pistol / angle adjustment grip one, also shank is not removable.

only reason I like SO is it has right direction lever, unlike others.

You're right Fedwrench. ReverseGear (New Tools/Hi-Five) makes them and can be seen with maybe a dozen different brand names on it. They include:
Britool, Bost, Bahco, Bluepoint, SK (pre-Ideal), Greatneck, Kobalt, Kincrome, SEK, TONE, Wurth, etc.

One exception was Facom. Their control ring doesn't have "ReverseGear" cast into it. Reason being, they were the ones who approached Hi-Five to manufacture the ratcheting screwdriver. So, the Facom version is the 'original' one.

When the new Wera one came out several years ago, I suspected that it was from Taiwan because of the similarity in the control ring as the Reverse Gear ones, but I beleive they are from the Czech Republic...or at least assembled there. The ratcheting action between the two were very similar in feel.


I've played around with the PB Swiss one and the build quality was great, but I wasn't impressed with the ratcheting mechanism.

PB Swiss also makes a shorter shank version as well as a 'key' version. Prices are cheaper on their direct website but don't know about sign shipping.

I've seen those at my local Lee Valley. They seemed to have a nice gearless mechanism that worked smoothly. My initial impressions were positive.....but I simply don't use them enough to justify getting one.

I've been a happy owner of another BC brand called MegaPro. I think they make a world-class ratcheting screwdriver:





This bit storage/rentention method has been recently copied(?) by Wiha.
