BAILEIGH DRILL PRESS DP-1500G WITH POWER FEED

This is made in Taiwan and has a gear drive system rather than variable speed which can offer more consistent torque. Only nice drill press made in taiwan that I have found so far. Anyone have experience with one of these.

Everything else I have found is made in china even a number of Rong Fu press are made in china.

I agree on the mill. Even look at used drill presses. You could get a small radial, or at least a nice heavy made in usa drill press for that price.

I have not used this press, but I have used a bunch of Baileigh stuff lately.

Baileigh has really fallen off in quality, boarder line garbage in many cases. Be weary.

At that price, you should buy a Cincinnati Super Service and have it rigged into your shop. It would probably cost less than that machine and won't take up substantially more floor area.

Look at the Ellis drill press, about the same $$ I have had one over 3 years and use it heavily with great success... no problems at all, VFD speed control and a ton of power. Often drill 2" annular cutter through 3/4" steel plate. American owned & built too !!

As for Baleigh, I bought a $1,000 belt / disc sander that I have had to completely rebuild in the 2 years I have had it. The bearing pillow blocks shifted almost right out of the box, the top roller for the belt side was .080" out of round and the whole thing bucked like a pissed of mule and the disc is out over .100" and can't sand anything smoothly... total POS & Baileigh was no help when contacted when the machine was under warranty. I went through my list of issues and was told they don't replace machines after the first month or so... never asked for a new machine, just wanted a sander that is worth the grand I paid for it. They are JUNK and will NEVER touch them again.

But good luck with whatever you decide to get

:+1: Or another used gear head machine. Most common mills you will run across can't compete with a 20" gear head drill press. The common Bridgeport class machine is only rated to something like 5/8" in steel. They just don't have the quill feed mechanism strong enough to push the larger drills.

tarbelle,

what facts lead you to that conclusion?

thank you ron

As others have stated on here and other forums/threads, Baileigh has fallen off in production quality. Built overseas to a lower standard then many of their competitors.

I suggest you research Baileigh on this site and others to see some of the experiences others have had.

Personally, I have used a few sanders, benders, and brakes that all have had shoddy build quality. That coupled with a premium/industrial price tag has turned me off of them.
