I got a Snappy socket set that was in a truck fire. truck was a complete loss but the tools were saved because they were not covered by insurance. The chrome has some funky black swirls in it but they've worked for the past 15 or so years without any issues.

I'd try them out and see what hapens

Thats what Im seeing now that M cleaning after the blasting. The chrome is still intact (so I dont know what the rust was from) and it seems it got hot enough to discolor just the protective layer. SO I decided to just clean them the best I can and leave em.

You can make those tools look like brand new satin finished tools with Scotch-Brite. You can get little wheel that mounts on a die grinder, or you can get a big 8'' wheel that mounts on your bench grinder.
