Baldor 407B question

Hey everyone. Quick question on a 1hp Baldor 407B. I know Baldor says use only soft buffing wheels. My question is can I run a wire wheel on it or a diamond deburring wheel? It came with one of those rubber expandable wheels to put sanding discs on and a soft buffing wheel that was completely worn out. It’s in really nice shape and it came on a bow door stand as well, I’m thinking I may have overpaid a little bit at $400 but I’ve been wanting one of these for a long time.

I'd be leery of doing it as you would be spinning a wheel that's 50% or more in weight than a buffer wheel. RPMs are not a problem, but that much rotating weight on that long of a shaft might be a bit much if you really dig into that wire wheel with something.

The hp doesn't really matter as putting a wire wheel on there would be adding 50% or more to the rotating weight and at nearly 5" from any support for the shaft. You run the risk of exceeding the design limits for both the bearing reaction limits and the shear force limits of the shaft. That's why you generally see wire wheels on shafts that have bearing supports close to the wheel hub.

Hello all you vice enthusiast. What would be a fair price for this large simplex P 81 vice? I believe he said it weighs about 220 pounds 8 inch jaws. He said the jaws are like new condition. He is asking $600. I think that might be a little on the high end just trying to come up with a fair price.
