Hi folks, I’m a long time lurker but this is my first post.
I just picked up a Baldor grinder off CL. It’s in decent shape and seems to run very well with the 2 old wheels on it. Other than being grimy the only thing I can see is lacking is one of the eye guards/ shields is cracked. I probably paid too much for it but I would like to bring it back to its original working condition. Any advise on what I should look for regarding this unit. Was the original color grey? Should I look into replacing bearings. Etc. thanks in advance for your help and I really appreciate the knowledge on this forum. -Steve

I think these were grey. If it starts and runs smooth, I wouldn't mess with anything, unless you're tearing it down anyways. I have a 7307D that had bad bearings when I got it, I tore it all the way down and replaced the bearings and capacitor and repainted everything.

I found that the Ace brand Machine Gray is a perfect match for Baldor. https://www.acehardware.com/departments/paint-and-supplies/spray-paint/hobby/17021

It dries quickly and has a hard finish.

Make sure you do a ring test on the wheels or replace with new ones. I have several
Baldor grinders and they work great. There are several Baldor restoration threads here. Looking forward to seeing your progress.

Thanks for the paint information. I need to repaint some Baldor stands

I picked one up a couple years ago. It runs well and has the lighted guards and exhaust chutes. I made my own cooling water cup. I also made catch bags for the exhaust chutes from fireproof long underwear legs (don't laugh - it works!). I can grind inside the garage with all the grit and sparks going into the bag.

Pics of your exhaust chutes and how you have them attached?

Here you go. I mispoke, the bags are fire retardant, not fire proof. But I can grind in a darkened garage and see the orange sparks in the bag. But they never burn the bag. The bags are made from NOMEX long underwear.
