I looked elsewhere on this site and couldn't find the info I need. I'm hoping someone can answer a question. On a Baldor 8100, I think the letter is a V. It says it can be wired for 220 or 110 volts. It is currently set up for 220. The horse power rating on the tag is 3/4hp. My question is, does it cut the HP by half by going to 110v? Obviously this thing is a beast compared to my 3/4hp craftsman 8". I have little working knowledge of electrical motors and the ratings and voltage.

Any info is appreciated and of course photos will follow.

If you wire it correctly for 120v use the power will remain the same. You are only swapping volts for more current, and the hp doesn't change.

Ok great! thank you. I have seen many people on here say the Baldor grinders are top notch so I couldnt pass on this one. It weighs a hundred pounds I bet (without stones on it)!

This is correct, if you think about it mathematically, Volts * Amps = Power.

So if you double the voltage and halve the amperage the Power remains the same.

That helps me understand it so much better! Thank you! I have never been exposed to anything dealing with electricity and voltage so I was completely lost.

There are two 110 volt run windings. On 220 volts they are wired in series so there is 110 volts across each one. On 110 they are wired in parallel so there us still 110 volts across each one. As well explained above, wattage is the same.
