Baldor Grinder - help with model number

I have a Baldor grinder without a machine tag/label.

Does anyone have a way to determine the specifics of this guy - HP, model number, catalog number, voltage, current, .... ?

UL label above machine tag/label location. Is this a model 439B ?

Arbor/shaft is 3/4".

8" Wheel diameter.

Any information will be appreciated.

TM: it does look like a nice Baldor. how does it run? are the three wires coming out the back so when you turn on the switch the lighted shields turn on at the same time? is that factory or do you think a prior owner made that remodel?

the pair of lighted shields i own plug in to the wall and have little on off switches on each of them.

I bet WWII is on the right track with the four digit # starting with 8 so his 8100 might be the one. any particular reason why you would need the exact # or are you making a tag?

here's an older 6 inch Baldor i own where the yellow tag has lost a rivet in case you need one to copy. i also had a picture of this blue one in case you think it might be the one you need.

OEM, and lights are controlled by front switch, which is not OEM.

I bought a 1/2-HP Diehl for the Baldor GA9 lighted eye shields that have separate power cords, but no individual switches.

The tag is missing, just wanted to know what I bought with my $100. A replacement tag would sure be nice, even if I had to print and laminate one.

I know this is an old thread, but I came across it looking for something else. And, as something of an old hat at vintage Baldor stuff, I thought I'd shine some light on your inquiry, since it doesn't look like you've gotten a final answer on what you have.

So here goes...

In short, it is either model number 8100WD or 8107WD. The thing that will tell us the difference is if it runs at 1800 or 3600 RPM. 8100WD grinders are 1800rpm and 8107WD is 3600rpm.

Age is a little harder to pin down, but given the basic design of it, and the motor tag configuration being a two rivet style (money says the drive screws are 3" on center), I'd say it from somewhere in the 60s or 70s.

Baldor hasn't changed model numbers in a very long time. For single phase 8" grinders there are only 5 model numbers.

8100W 1800RPM (No lights, basic eye shields)
8100WD 1800rpm (Lighted eye shields, water pot, tool tray)
8107W 3600RPM (No lights, basic eye shields)
8107WD 3600rpm (Lighted eye shields, water pot, tool tray)
8250W combination grinder and buffer

The D at the end of the model numbers, stands for Deluxe. It's obviously not the combination machine. Also, it was obviously pre-wired for the eye shields and the mounting bracket for the water pot is still present on the back of one of the wheel guards. The bracket for the tool tray would have been mounted with two of the bolts that holds on one of the wheel covers, but in your case, that is MIA.

So, if you can figure out what RPM its running at, you'll know what you have.

When I restored a very similar 8107W, that also needed a tag, a couple years ago, I actually contacted Baldor about getting a replacement tag. They said that without the actual Spec. Number, they wouldn't be able to make one that didn't have only VERY basic information on it and even at that, it would be about $200 for the part, so that was a non starter.

I agree, $200 for a machine tag for a $100 grinder is not making sense to me.

As my habit, I've slid a couple of projects ahead of ones already in line. I will get back to this one, eventually.

Something you might do if you want to have the information present on the grinder, is buy sheets of label paper that you can run through a printer. You can layout your own data tag and apply it to the grinder. Or you can cut out a plate from .016" aluminum and apply the label to that and affix it to the grinder with drive screws like the original was
