HP 1/4 RPM 3450

I just got this motor today of the CL and one thing that threw me off was the attachment on the shaft and the levers on each side. So immediately I wanted to find out what is it.

To my big surprise it's dental polishing lathe and not very cheap item either.

So far I am unable to find more info on it other then the ebay listings. Correct me if I am wrong but the No. designation on the nameplate is the year it was made. Oh yeah and it still works great. I am thinking of restoring it and turning it into a buffer.

So what were the "uprights" used for. Very interesting piece. Are the "bits" original as well?

"uprights" are actually handles for ejector. Ejector is like a nut, you turn it and it would force the chuck off the spindle, hence ejector. The "bits" is a chuck, you would slip a polishing wheel over it. I am guessing there are different size of wheels therefore the chuck is tapered. It is original
