What are T-Through Handle Ball End Hex Keys used for?

For when you cannot access the allen socket directly on axis due to obstructions.

The ball allows you to come at it on an angle. Sorta like a socket universal joint.

But do be aware, due to the reduced neck between the ball and shaft, there is a decrease in strength.

Ball ends are good for tight spots and convenience. It is like a wobble right in the socket of socket head cap screws (Allen bolts if you will). They are convenient for places where it is difficult to get on axis with the screw or bolt.

some keys are too long, some bolt heads are in awkward positions, some have another factor that make it awkward to get to. The ball end means you don't have to be in line to get the bolt loose or tighten it. you can be off center and still have full contact on all 6 faces.

just make sure you have it fully seated before applying torque...otherwise you'll have a bad day...

I use them to act like speed wrench as well, for quickly running socket headed screws in and out (you don't have to be dead on and they aren't always super snug like an "L" can be). I use the traditional hex key for final tightening or breaking one loose.

They are life savers. Try not to use them for breaking loose or final torque. I've stripped a few using them to break bolts loose.

and be aware that if you put too much torque and the ball breaks off in the socket (always at an inconvenient and inaccessable spot), it REALLY *****.

If you've ever changed the coil in a BMW /2 motorcycle, a ball-end hex key is the hot ticket for replacing that ONE screw the factory hid behind the coil and juuuusssst inside the engine case. Bought two different offset screwdrivers trying to get that ****** out, and neither would work in the tight spot. Once I MADE a tool to get the factory slotted screw out, I replaced the screws with allen bolts. If sometime in the NEXT 40 years of running this bike the coil goes out, I'll have NO problems getting it out again.
