Ball joint press how bad is this?

So I got this and the adjoining set cheap.

2 questions

1. How bad is this press? Usable you think? (Occasional home use only)

2. One of the cups for the second set got bent badly by the previous owner, can you purchase separate pieces for the kits?

The clamp is spread out and will make changing ball joints a pain and most likely still need heat. You'll cuss it and then go buy an Astro Pneumatic and be much happier. That's what I did.

That's pretty bad. I'd spring for a new frame at least. The cups are probably alright for occasional use and if you find yourself needing the Honda cup that's beat to hell you can replace it individually.

I wouldn’t bother, unless I was in a bind and way behind. That kit doesn't look too heavily used and I bet it'd just fold over again the first time you tried to use it.

Wow, that looks just like the one I took back to HF after trying to replace one lower BJ on my 04 suburban.
Pass it up. I don't have any Astro tools yet, but it has to be better than that one.
Just my opinion.

You can't go wrong with Astro. I bought a HF one on sale and bent it on the first use on a half ton truck. I bought the Astro kit and the XL press and haven't looked back. It doesn't bend or flex at all working on one tons even when you use a high power impact.

The one I bought from HF came out of the box out-of-alignment.... No signs that it was a return, either.

The "C" clamp is worthless/useless and if you try to use it again by bending it so the threads line up it may snap. Don't use it, wait for Chris to send you the Astro clamp.

BTW I have the Astro set with the C Clamp and compared to the Snap-on BJP1, it flexes a bit more but so far hasn't broke or failed.

Not to shill for astro, but they make some damn fine stuff. Add in the price factor, and it's a brand keeping an eye on.

I just got my Goliath. Haven't used it yet but it's a beast and half what OTC wants for their large frame which IIRC needs an adapter to use with the normal cups.

Chris and Astro were true to their word! They have a lifelong loyal customer now! I'll be checking with them before I make other tool purchases in the future. I cannot express how grateful and blown away I am by his generosity.

You can see significant quality differences between the HF and awesome Astro tools. I know, shocker, right?

I wouldn't mind one with cosmetic imperfections.
