Ball Peen & Deadblow hammer questiosn

At work, they bought us Stanley dead blow Ball ***** and dead blow Soft Face hammers.

what kind of shop do you work in?

It's orange, and I use it all the time.

did anyone see the prices on these, awesome prices, I'm ordering a few soon. Any feedback on these? Is it just that the grips dont have the fancy snap on colors and the press on badges?

Estwing makes a nice ball peen, they have them in at least 3 sizes. I like them better then the Cmans. They have a nice deadblow also. I like they have different grip options.

I just got a Wiha 49 oz deadblow this week. the ends are replacable when you wear them out, and it seems well constructed, but only time will tell. My only gripe is the handle material is almost a hard plastic vs. a grippy rubber. The handle is definitely no worse than my trusty cook, and I like that the head of the deadblow is a little more compact (although TC offers a slimline head that's dimensionally similar).

I bought 3 Snap On(Blue-Point) dead blow hammers about 25 years ago and the plastic broke up on all three. Just before Christmas Snap On sent me a new set of three. Good for popping on wheel covers without a mark, too. I also bought 2 other new ones from S-K (tooltopia) last year.

I have the biggest deadblow that HF? Northern Tool? could sell me ten years ago. I love it. Get the biggest one you see. You can always buy a smaller, cheaper one later. I love dead blow. Big hits, no bounce. You'll never realize how much hammers were bouncing back on you until you get one. I can't say the force is truly transmitted more efficiently (that's been settled here, some thread) but it sure feeeels like it to me.

Like a poster above, yeah, my "4 lb" hammer wasn't that heavy. But it's still big and heavy. If I wanted to go bigger, that would be from a real brand like SO & Stanley, and that's real money.

I have 2 snap on deadblow ball peens a 40 oz and a 24 oz. I usually use the 24 day to day and use the 40 for serious rampaging. Looking back maybe a 32 oz would be the best of both worlds but i'm happy with both.

Looks like the perfect excuse to buy another tool.

What is a good weight for an all around general purpose ball peen hammer? Main use will be for when working on steering/suspension, etc on a 3/4 ton Dodge Diesel.

saw this a few days late but I work on those everyday and I use a 4 lb "blacksmith" hammer
