Looking for more info. This belongs to a friend of mine. He wanted a handle installed which I did for him. The hole in the screw was there.
Marked Roy Goodnick. 11 lbs. 4 3/4" dia. Jaws are hardened and reversible . Seems a little too heavy duty for jewelry work maybe gun smithing?

Some similar vises are called engraver vises, but yours is different. Is there a level area on the bottom? Or does it rely on the bean bag?

My engravers’ ball vise is 7#, but the threaded section on top has jewelers sized screws.

There was a Roy Goodnick in the 1940 census, listed as a Tool & Die maker, working in the Ring Industry, listed in NY.

Don’t know where you are, so don’t know if your buddy was close when he got it.

No telling how many round vises Roy made. But It has to be a very rare vise. I am sure there are a few who would like to have that in their collection. Let me know if he decides to part with it. That is cool.

I've seen a vise thread on here 6 -7 years or so ago of one made from a bowling ball. The round bottom sat in a brake drum and could be locked in any angle. Search bowling ball vises maybe.
