Hi, all! I have been researching various products to seal my new garage floor. I've done plenty of epoxy, polyurea, etc floors in the past and want to try a basic sealer this time.

I was pretty set on Ballistix SC at first, but then I started seeing a lot of info about Eagle Gloss Coat (solvent based) online. From what I've seen I like the look of the Eagle better as it looks like it dries more even and gives a more consistent look. I would imagine both offer similar protection.

Does anyone have any first hand experience with either of these products? I'd be interested to hear your thoughts.

Thanks!

The two products you are looking at are apples and oranges in comparison. BallistiX is a Silicon-Ceramic-Silane-Hybrid clear coating and sealer that provides far more protection against chemicals, abrasion resistance, and staining than a standard solvent-based acrylic sealer such as Eagle. It's kind of like comparing a standard wax for your car vs a ceramic coating.

Ballistix can be finicky to work with though for those not experienced with it. Solvent-based acrylic sealers are much easier to apply. If you want to go the route of an acrylic sealer, then I would recommend an MMA acrylic. They will perform better than the Eagle brand you reference.

Better yet, you may want to look into a single-part polyurea coating in clear. All you will need is one coat. It will perform much better than any acrylic out there. I will post an article about them below. The article has an example of a garage done in clear only.

I've used both polyurea and 6600MMA.

The acrylic is used on my sidewalk, driveway, and a back porch. It's a bit like sealing your drive in a sheet of very thin "plastic" for a better word, everything just wipes up. It's slick when wet. It's great for preventing oil stains. Outdoors, I have to re-apply every 2 years or so. Easy to apply, no surprises.

Indoor preference is polyurea, two coats.

Good info, thanks. I've used a polyurea on top of a base in an Armorpoxy kit and it didn't last at all (EDIT: it was a polyaspartic top coat, not polyurea). Scratched incredibly easy and chipped during what I'd consider normal garage work. Yes it was installed exactly to their specs.

Because of this, I'm weary of putting down another polyurea, even if it's just clear. I'm over making a floor look pretty as it never lasts with the work I do, so I'd rather just seal it to prevent issues with staining and that's all.

Sounds like the Ballistix is the better choice for this. I will also look into the MMA you referenced.
