I have a 12" band saw with a 6" drive pulley on the left side...
I also have a 6" belt sander w/8" sanding disc...
2 separtate units both craftsman bought back in the 60's...
Question, is there a way that I can run both units off the same motor ?
Motor is 1 hp. with shaft on both ends...
Using a 4' x 3' x 1 1/2" table...
I can mount motor on top of table or underneith...
What can I use to disengage drive belt from one or the other when I want to use the other or just let both run at the same time. Really don't have a warm fuzzy to do that...:dunno:

Thanks,

Don't run both at the same time. Just uses up power. The way to do this is hang/hinge the motor below. Hopefully you can mount the machines in a way that the pulleys are on the same side and going in the correct direction. Then just lift the motor and switch the belt to the machine you want to use.

If you have problems with the pulley orientation/direction, you can find motors with output shafts on either end.

Hanging the motor on a hinged mount is really the fastest way to change over. If it slips, add some weight to it. Use a notched belt for better traction. Make sure you get the right pitch and width.
