Band Saw Drive Wheel Rubber Problem

This is an old saw but has really had light use. I've changed the blade several times and it does a pretty good job. Sometimes I cut thin aluminum that creates a lot of filings that tend to stick to the rubber belt(?) on the drive wheel that the blade rides on.

The other day the saw blade was acting strange so when I pulled the cover off the rubber belt was coming off then it just spun off...

How do I fix this?
Do I need a new frictional belt (good luck)?

It is called a tire, not a belt.
You could try some adhesive under it to get it to stay in place on the wheel. Or you could buy a set of polyurethane tires that are stiffer, which won't eject like that.

Cutting metal on that saw is creating excessive vibrations leading to the tire walking off.

Maybe, but I've found it's the aluminum is harder to cut, thus more resistance on the blade teeth, thus requires more force to drive, which has to be transmitted from the wheel to the tire to the blade. This constant strain causes the tire to literally stretch, thus loosening on the wheel.

I just restored an old Craftsman 12" recently and use new Urethane tire on it from ebay. I used the same style on a 14" Delta that I restored a while back. They may help but you probably need a metal cutting saw for best results.
