New to me is a Delta 28-380 wood/metal cutting 14" band saw. Bought from an estate sale where it has been sitting unused for years. Currently it is in metal cutting mode, back gears ingaged. Problem is I cannot get it out of back gear. This is the model with a knurled knob at the center of the large pulley that is supposed to be pulled out for wood cutting and pushed in (backgear reduction) for metal cutting. I sprayed around the knob with penetrating oil and pried lightly to no avail. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks, Scott

Knurled knob? I'm not familiar with that one.
Mine has a shaft on the side, between the level of the two pulleys, with a post ending in a ball. Turn it up for one way, down for the other (I forget which way engages the gears).
This one is like what I have:

He's got a scan of a manual linked there too.

edit:
Is there oil in the gearbox?

Pull the gear box and send it to me.
I am not saying I'll fix it and return it, but I've been looking for one to convert a bandsaw I have.

when you move that knob, you are just moving a toothed dog ring. They are normally pretty hard to move, try rocking the lower wheel as you are pulling or pushing on the knob. if that doesn't work, loosen all the belts and again try rocking the wheel while doing it. If THAT doesn't work, and you can determine if it is in the out position, try a few LIGHT whacks with a plastic mallet. If its in, maybe try some light pressure with a gear puller. (Remember, I think only a setscrew holds the knob on in so LIGHT pressure)
