I have been looking for a decent size bandsaw for woodworking, but everything on Craigslist has been around $500-750...more than I wanted to spend.

I was searching last weekend and came across a Delta 14" that was advertised as "not running, may need a motor" for $75. Other than a rusty table, it looked like it was in good shape.

I emailed the seller within a few minutes of it being posted and he agreed to hold it for me til this weekend.

I stopped by with a buddy and it was exactly as pictured and wouldn't run. I bought it and took it home hoping it was a simple issue. When we got it unloaded, I reseated the cord's plug in the base and it fired right up! The cord was just loose. :)

It's a 28-216 saw with a 52-941 base. 1.5HP at 115v, 2hp at 230v. And it's American made!

I'm working on cleaning up the table now. It's the best tool score I've ever had.

Yes, this has a ton of cutting height. Almost 13" with the guard fully raised. Just wish it had the dust collection port. Since the part is discontinued from Delta, I'll have to try and make something.

wow, that table is rusty. I got a lot off, but I'll need to go at it tomorrow with a random orbit sander. It is sitting now with a thin layer of naval jelly. I'll see how it looks in the morning.

The two thrust bearings are not rolling very well, so I have a couple on order from an ebay seller at $10 for the pair.

What a score with a big motor and riser. You can resaw all day long. I would just take that table off and throw it in a bath of Evaporust. It is water based so cover it to prevent evaporation. Every so often knock off the loose stuff on the surface and throw it back until it is clean. It is a lot nicer to work with than the phosphoric acid based removers like Naval jelly. After it is clean, Boeshield will keep it rust free. I have iy on my Delta band saw, my drill press table and jointer.

That's a serious "you ****" that is a great saw at unbelievable price! I have the same saw a few years older with the height block also. It's been a great saw I bought new about 16 years ago.

thanks. I ended up going at the table with a can of WD40 and my RO sander with 120 and 220 grit paper. a new pic is attached. I still need to clean up the miter slot, but that isn't a high priority right now.

I have some rust spots on the chrome plated fence rail that I can't get off with an SOS pad. A lot cleaned up, but there is some left. Any advice on how to clean this up without taking the chrome off?

New thrust bearings are arriving on Saturday. Otherwise, I've cleaned up almost all the rust, so it will get put back together next week. first projects are already being planned.

Hey, 6PtSocket,
what kind of Boeshield would you use for a tool like this (or wrenches etc.)? I did a little looking around, and the stuff seems to be like LocTite - comes in many flavors. I've had mixed results applying WD40 after derusting, ready to try something else.
