I found this for sale locally and could use some help determining what would be a fair price. The owner said it currently has a blade on it for cutting metal. He could not tell me the model number or the motor HP but said it looks original. He is asking $449.00

Well, you can see it's a Delta. And having just sold one last weekend, I can say it's a 14" saw and they don't command that price here in Chicago----mine sold for less than $300. It's hard to tell in the pics if that saw has the slow speed gearbox for cutting ferrous metals, but if it does it's worth more. Mine was fully restored, and really nice, whereas that one looks to need some work.

Check for the gearbox. If it has one, offer $250, and be preapared to go up to $350 if you need that feature. If no gearbox, I'd say $150-200 tops. If you come to Chicago, I'll sell you a semi-restored Delta 14 for a great deal!

That is a $250-300 bandsaw in these parts if a single speed. If it's got a gearbox/multi-step pulley - add another $50-100.

Has oil plug for gearbox. I don't think the multi speeds warrant much value unless that's what you are specificslly looking for (metal cutting capacity.)

Just check that you can wiggle the shifter in and out of gear easily.

Value hard to say, the market is awash in 14" bandsaws, and most buyers are just looking to make pine bird houses, not pushing these saws, so 14" is considered entry level.

exmax; Thanks for the appriasial . I actually travel to Chicago quite often when working. I operate a Train from Ohio to Bedford Park and stay near Midway Airport. I dont think I really need a saw to cut metal just something to use so I never have to touch a Jigsaw again. Send a few pictures of the Delta you have for sale to me

Nice old saw. I've restored 2 like the one your looking at.
Looks complete, Looks to be 2 speed model, but can't tell unless you remove the belt cover. (is the belt cover Cast, or sheet metal?) Working 2 speed =$50-100. Has the light, and that is $50. Delta original motor a +
Motor probably needs bearings, and saw will also, most likely. Check tires for wear also. Parts are available, and it's a pretty common saw in my area, so depending on your requirements it could be a nice buy for you. For my mid Ohio area, probably looking at around $300-$350. Would have to be in very nice condition for that money here.

Check here, Old Wood Working Machines and search Delta 14" bandsaw for more information. Can also date the machine using the S/N if you have it.

That saw has the gearbox. I bought one of the same for $100 last week.
$300 is still a very good price if it is in excellent condition.
