I need a new blade for my Craftsman bandsaw. I need a 70.5" 14 TPI blade. I've seen Powertec and Craftsman so far. Any others anyone would recommend? I'll be cutting wood. I use a different set-up for cutting metal and plastic.

Ha I just asked the same thing. Am about to order powertec from sears and take advantage of their 20 back on 20 deal. I have no idea how they perform though so I will see if anyone chimes in.

I like the Timber wolf blades. As a long time user (50+ years) of bandsaws, I can tell you that 95% of bandsaw issues are due to dull blades. So my recommendation is to order at least TWO blades when you find a source. When the saw bogs down or the cut starts to wander, CHANGE THE BLADE. Good luck making sawdust.

I buy my blades either from the welding supply house or a local industrial supply.

I get Bahco, Amada and MK morse bi-metal blades. They will make them in whatever configuration you need.

Call around in your area, I bet you'll be able to find a local dealer that carries something you'll use.

What blade material do you all recommend? Carbon steel, bi-metal or something else? I'm cutting wood. I have another set-up for metal. There's a big price difference ($12 vs $30).

For the ferrous and non-ferrous items I cut, bi-metal all the way. If just wood, plain carbon steel will be fine.

Amada makes excellent band saw blades. I would recommend them over most any other manufacturer.

Morse, Starrett and Lennox are the main blades used in industry but it will usually come down to your local blade convertor/welder to get best value and service. Also stick with bi-metal if you have any amount of work going through for metal anyway, not too sure about wood blades though.

If I could only have one bandsaw blade, it would be the Amada Protector line. Bimetal, and unbelievably long life if you know how to properly break it in and run your saw.

For wood, pretty much anything will get the job done, but bimetal will stay sharp longer.
